I just bought a 14 month old yorkie and need some advice hi everyone, i just bought my first yorkie (yesterday)and he is 14 months old. he is housetrained to go outside, but i live in a condo and have a patio for him to go on. but now in my second day, he is not thrilled to go outside on the cement. so i put down wee wee pads and he finally started going on them. i would like him to go on the wee wee pads when we are not home and outside when we are home. is this possible? do i crate him or just gate him in an area? how can i get him to use the wee wee pads without lifting his leg and peeing all over off the pad? if i leave him all day, like 8 hours, should i not feed him any food or water? should i put a wee wee pad in the crate along with him? any advice at all would be appreciated. thanks |
yes always leave water down, I would gate him with the pee pee pads and see how that goes, but leave toys and bones down also...Can you walk him outside on a harness...in the grass..that my help...:) |
14 month old yorkie-just got him hi, thanks for the reply. no i have no grass, but a large cement patio. how do i stop him from lifting his leg and peeing on the kitchen cabinets, if i gate him in there, or bathroom cabinets. |
I don't have any problem with my boys pee on the cabinets when the lift there leg..so I don't really know....Is there a common area in the condo complex where you can walk him in the grass....:) |
14 month old yorkie-just got him no, there is no grass, i live in queens, new york. i am lucky enough to have a piece of cement of my own, lol i have a brand new kitchen, 6 months old, so i thought there might be a solution to the leg lift. |

When you gate him in the kitchen, cover a 2-liter pop bottle (or something about that size) with a pee pad and put that on the pee pad that you leave on the floor and see how he does with that. |
