litter box? Hey, I'm a new member of this site. I will be bringing my new puppy home in just a few more weeks and am finishing up some research... I was considering training her via litterbox and was wondering if anyone else out there has done this with their puppy/dog and what the experience was, if you prefer this or don't reccommend it, any info would be helpful!:aimeeyork |
i use the box with the pee pads in them. seems to work better than just the pads because they cant "miss" in the box :) Welcome! |
Litter Training Hi! My little guy is litter box trainer (95% of the time!). He was paper-trained by the time we got him from the breeder at 10 weeks, so it was not too difficult to litter train. We don't use litter in the box, but continue to put newspaper in the box. It didn't take too long to get him used to it. I wouldn't have it any other way. With our cold climates in the winter, taking him outside and not being able to leave him unattended just doesn't work for us. Good luck! |

i use wee pads with wee pad holder , works great, they have to step alittle into it to potty |
Works perfectly for us!!!!! It wasn't any harder to train her to the box than any other method I've trained others to. We use the Purina products. I have tried other pellets, but they didn't absorb as well. Ours wanted to play with the pellets at first, once the novelty wore off after a few days, she's done fine. We put a layer of them just thick enough to cover the bottom of the pan, pick out the poo each time she goes and dump it about every other day- no smell, very little mess. A 25# bag is about $15 and is lasting about 2 months. As I was finishing this she ran in and used it. I think it's the greatest thing ever, especially for the very small kids. Good luck. |
We also use the litter box with pee-pee pads inside. its been working pretty well, but shes only been home for a few days so we'll see! She knows where its located but now is having a timing issue... I heard that some brands of pads are scented so the puppies know what they're supposed to do on it...as soon as we brought her home she took to it right away so i'd believe it! The pads also arent that expensive, especially if you get them from like a walmart or a target. The only problem we have had is sometimes she tries to play and bite the corners of the pad and yesturday started pulling them out of the box...but the box i bought actually has piece that goes on top (its a cat litter box--i noticed they make different ones for cats and dogs) to keep a liner in I'm guessing, that we werent using originally but now i am to help keep her from pulling at the pad, and its working so far! |
My baby was 3 months old when I got her which will now be two weeks. I trained her in a litter box with the newspaper pellets. She does fine with an accident once in a while but for it only barely 2 weeks she is going great. the cons to this litter training is that we have pellets all over the bathroom. it gets annoying at times when youre barefoot and end up with them stuck at the bottom of your feet. the litter doesnt stink either and i change it once a week. i do take out the poops once dropped as she will go on my bathroom rug if i dont. I use a litter box...no litter though they would eat it! I put a reusable pee pad in it.. |
I tried the litter box but he would get so cared that he would not even move when I put her in it, and jump off instantly. I returned it to petco. |
