Aggression Help...
 

For oh 95% of his life Bruce was a happy go lucky pup, who was well socialized and loved to play with other dogs in my opinion at least. He completed puppy socialization class, basic obedience, and attended day care daily and played happily with the other pups...Well after this last (and hopefully final surgery) he went through a period of isolation (meaning no pup play time, I still spend a ton of time with him), and has been exhibiting aggressive tendencies, or actually what I would consider extremely aggressive behavior...

He barks uncontrollably at all other dogs, but is worse with big dogs. He has snarled, growled and tried to attack other dogs, including dogs he has been around and played with his whole life. He barks at people more, especially cyclists and joggers, and tonight while walking him appeared like he was going to lunge at one. This is all worse while on leash or when held, and with me and people he knows he acts sweet as can be.

I have tried many methods to help this, currently I am even paying a private trainer, but nothing seems to be helping. If this continues Bruce will not get to play with pals or anything and will be miserable. Is there anything that anyone can suggest?

My Pheobe just got spayed and i think because she is been at home for so long she has become a litle less friendly too, i'm hoping that ones she get out agai, she will stop, and be like she was before,dogs get tired and grumpy too specially when they are in pain. You may want to call the vet to see if is ok or take it back to the trainer. Good luck.

Awwww, poor Bruce! He was always so sweet, even when that mean Sophia snapped at him!

I wonder if he's still sore from the last surgery? If he's in pain, maybe it could affect his disposition.

I'm just guessing though. I've never heard of a dog changing like that. Hopefully, the trainer will figure something out. Good luck.

I think the others are right - his behavior change might well mean that he isn't feeling well.

I'd continue with the trainer IF it is a positive trainer. A trainer that disciplines him - in any way - is likely to make the problem worse. Instead, he needs a trainer who rewards him for good behavior.
