Need some help with simple stuff :( Hey guys/gals! Well Emma is getting big and knows quite a bit of tricks now. But she isn't doing the simple things. She will not come to us when we want to take her on a walk she just runs around you and wont let you leash her. Also she always steels toilet paper, paper, and/or anything. She is clicker trained and knows sit, down, roll over, play dead, shake, but these essentials she is lacking and very frustrating. If someone could point me in the right direction to get her from stop running from us all the time I would appreciate it. Oh yeah, she runs from us when we try to pick her up, except when she is really tired. |

My yorkie does that too its sooooooo annoying I can't get her to sit and listen. She'll be running around with paper in her mouth and when I yell at her she starts playing:confused: |
Gracie does this too. We start puppy school on Friday! Until then, she loves to get up on my lap as soon as I sit down on the sofa. So, when I want to catch her, I go sit down on the sofa. She jumps on my legs until I lift her up. Voila! I'm amazed that as smart as she is, she has not caught onto this yet. I'm sure she will. |
To get her used to the leash, try putting it on her and letting her drag it around for a while. She learns that it's not the enemy. Slowly start to hold onto it for short periods of time. I wouldn't like somebody tethering me either! Best of luck to you!:) |
I would always sit down in the same place and hold her leash up so she can see it and ask HER if she wants to go for a walk. In no time, if she likes to go for walks (and what yorkie doesn't?) she should come to YOU. |
thanks i will implement some of the stuff i heard, like sitting in one spot and holding up the leash, and also putting it on her and letting her drag it around |

http://www.dragonflyllama.com/%20DOG...s/TL1Come.html The problem with "come" is that we poison it so often. How often do we use "come" to end a pup's fun? That's punishing to the pup. "Come" because I'm going to take that forbidden object away from you, "come" because I want to take you inside, "come" because I want to put you to bed, etc, etc, etc. Is it any wonder that pups refuse to come to us? The trick is to keep a REALLY high rate of reinforcement for coming. Call the pup to you a bazillion times a day just to get a treat and then let her go back to what was fun. I've read that in order to have a reliable recall, the ratio of "come" for a treat to "come" because the party's over should be about 90% of the time. That's alot of "come, get a treat"!!! If she's already decided that coming isn't reinforcing enough, you may have to up the value of the treat you are offering. Maybe a tiny bite of cheese or leftover meat. Since she doesn't like being picked up, I would give her a treat every time I picked her up for a while. |
