Potty training Is finding the pee-pee pad usually an issue for a 10 week old Yorkie puppy? Where is the best place to put it? My Yorkie only uses it 1/2 the time, and he's only pooped on it once. He now tends to go in the same spot everytime. Unfortunately this is not an ideal spot for the pad. We have only had him a couple days are we expecting too much? I try to follow him around and when I catch him starting to go I will move him to the pad but he stops going and won't go for a while longer. I am a Vet assistant and I am still stumped I have never actually had to potty train a puppy before need some advice please. |
I believe you have to teach them..because all mine likes to do sometimes is play with her pad! :) |

If where he goes potty is not a convenient place, you could try to put it there for a couple days, then move it a little each day. This is what we did with Ferdinand as recommended by a trainer. (Of course you would have to deal with it being in an inconvenient place for a couple days) We got him when he was only 8.5 weeks old and he figured it out right away... now getting him to only go outside is a whole different story!! |
I got cash 3 weeks ago and it took about a week to teach him to go on the pee pad and that was with constant watching but once he learned that he should go on the pee pad i bought a pen and moved the pad as far away from his crate as possible and he automatically goes there to poop and pee except now a days when i let him out of the pen, he goes on his pee pad (the one outside of the pen) only when he knows he's being watched. when I take my eyes off of him for 2 seconds, chances are i'll be stepping in pee when i get up. it makes me think that he never really associated pee pad with peeing. he only knows when when we're watching to go otherwise he gets a time out. it's frustrating but i guess you have to take the good with the bad. |
Indoor Training When I'm not home i keep Sadie (4 1/2 months old) in an x-pen with pee pads. When I'm home I leave the door to the x-pen open, and she will go there to pee almost 100% of the time. Pooping is a totally different thing. She NEVER uses the pee pads to poop. Always poops on the rug. I watch her like a hawk after she eats (I feed her 3 meals a day plus free food - she only poops after her meals) - but as soon as I blink she's pooped - I never actually see her do it!! I've tried moving the poop to the pads in her x-pen to try to give her the right idea, but hasn't worked so far. Any suggestions???? Pat :confused: |
Hi! I'm new to the site and a new yorkie owner as well. I got Max almost two weeks ago. He's now 8 1/2 weeks old. He's a beautiful dog, but stubborn as all get out. I am trying to crate train with not much luck. I have his crate blocked off to give him room to lay and turn around and that's about it. However, he still pooh's and pee's in it. I take him out several times throughout the day and once during the night and he refuses to do anything outside. Occasionally he will do one or the other, but typically he waits until we get back inside. Any advice? Another problem is biting/chewing. Any advice on this too? |
