Potties too frequently!??
 

I just got a 14 week yorkie puppy :aimeeyork recently and she knows to pee on her pee pads, but because I shower her with praises or a treat, she's been going more and more frequently and is averaging a pee every 7 minutes!!! :confused:

I've tried decreasing my treats & praise which regresses her to peeing on the floor. Any ideas on how to get her to hold it in longer while still using the pads?

Also, she's good about peeing on the pee pad but pooping she'll do anywhere. Please help!

Loki did this but we found out he was drinking about 3-4 times as much water as he should have been. I can still put a 16oz bowl in front of him and he'll drink the whole darn thing. Dogs need about 1 to 1.5 oz of water per pound of body weight per day. Measure, don't limit, her water for a day or two and you'll see if she's drinking too much. If she is - go to the vet and they will test her for a whole variety of things. Loki turned out to just LOVE water - so we SLOWLY decreased his water and now we limit it to small amounts at a time so he doesn't get the "chug" effect going. (He doesn't know when to stop!) But there are many serious diseased that cause excessive drinking so you don't want to limit water and try to change behavior until you determine if it's a behavior or medical problem. Sorry for the lecture!!

Anyway, if she's drinking a normal amount maybe she's not learning to empty her bladder. Try taking her for a walk and letting her stop every few houses to pee until she is empty. Then see how long it is before she pees again once she is empty. Eventually she might learn to go all at once. Try crate training - this will help too.

Loki peed about every 10-15 mins when he was that age. So for us, that sounds completely normal! He is almost 2 and still asks to go out around once an hour unless he's napping or crated. Crated he can hold it 4-5 hours maybe longer and he sleeps through the night with medication (he has nighttime incontinence.. he's just special!) so there is hope! He's totally outside trained - we just have to let him out often.

I would praise her as much as possible until she is around 8 months old. She is still very young and in training. Believe me...there are days where she will surprise and make a mess to get your attention. She is a puppy the treats won't make her fat. She needs all the nutrients she can get when she is young.
