Screaming puppy Hello everyone, I am a first time Yorkie mom.I have had dogs all my life and could never be with out.My little Summer is Quite the screamer when she is left alone in her crate or in her play pen.I have never heard a puppy scream before Summer. Is this screaming a Yorkie trait, it is unlike any other puppy cry.She has everything she would need ,food ,water, toys, greenie, potty pads, blanket and a open crate in her play pen.I do spend time with her as I am home all day.Any suggestions? Thanks |
My Jewels was a screamer when she was a little puppy. I never was able to keep her in a crate or xpen. She would cry all day. At night i would put her in a xpen but she would have to see me lay down to go to sleep before she would quit crying.Since I didnt find a solution i dont have any advice for you except put her crate or playpen where she can see you at night. That might help you get some sleep anyway |
Try put some of your clothing in with her that you have worn. Also I had a pup once that wined all night. so i would lay with her and a stuff toy and than lay the stuff toy in her crate slowly. she accepted the toy, for me at night time. good luck my daughter dogs also was trained like this and every night she tells him to get his baby and go nite.. nite.. it is very cute. |
Are you training her to be left alone in her crate when you're at home? If she gets used to being alone in her crate while you're home, it should help reduce seperation anxiety. Just be busy doing something else nearby and let her scream and ignore her. If she stops, try counting as close to 60 as you can while going about your business. I usually get to about 15-20 then reward her with a treat or tell her she's being good. I had to play around with this as my puppy continues to scream as soon as I acknowledge her but if I continue to ignore her she's fine. Good luck! |
heres something that might help also http://www.puplife.com/dogsupplies/snug.html |
greenies aren't good they don't digest all the way throw them out. |
How old is your baby? I brought Gracie home at 8 weeks and she screamed everytime I left her sight. I used the comfort pup dog bed and put one of my old slippers in her crate. She quieted down within a week. She continued to cry when I left her sight but it did not last near as long. She is now 13 weeks and only rarely lets out a peep. At 8-12 weeks they fear abandonment and have to learn that when you leave, you will come back. |
Thank you for your suggestions.I do leave her in her play pin when I am home but I will add something of mine to try and calm her. O.K about the greenies, why are they not good for her?I don't give her rawhide because after as far back as I can remember they were o.k till someone recently said they caused blockages.I also was told not to give bones cause they can sliver. What is left to give? She doesn't like pig ears or hooves. Thanks! |
no greenies, no rawhide bully sticks are you answer 100 % digestable.. |
This might work by mistake (FORGOT ABOUT THIS) (it helped my 17yr YT sleep more calm ) i spray my bedding with aromatherapy (lavender) i got from bed and bath. my asti was sleep very well i don't do this with her right in the room at the time .i wait to let her in an hour or longer after. it seem to help check and make sure you pup can handle this first.. |
I know I'd read somewhere in this forum, to put the puppy where they can see you, most likely the busiest room in the house. And I also read to ignore them when they're screaming or crying, wait till they stop to give them attention. This did help me a lot. I still have trouble when I go to bed at night, but not as much trouble as I did that first week I got her home. Good luck. |
