what do you think? Puppy Pad training or Outside potty training? Gracie is about 95% puppy pad trained but not outside trained. I was wandering what every ones thought of what is better what they prefer etc??? i was wandering if i should try doing both since she is still a pup? well what do you guys think of everything? im not sure! soo thanks for the help |
morgan is 95% outside trained. She hasn't potty'd in my house in months but she has slipped in my friends apartment. she peed right next to me while we were eating dinner. i think she was just mad i wasn't giving her anything to eat. i recommend outside traing. its so much better. no pee or poop in the house ever! |
outside but maybe you could use the pads at night? |
Loki is outside trained. We never used pads. I don't get the big thing with pads. He went outside from the first day we brought him home. Yes I still need to get up and let him out even at night and yes we crate train him and can't leave him for more than 5 hours or so, but it's not confusing for him and he never thinks it's OK to go in the house and he is used to grass. If given the choice, he generally prefers mulch to grass but whatever - it's all outside. If you are going to outside train you should crate train and do it not while she's still a puppy. It's a lot of work but it's worth it!! You can even get a doggie doorbell to help her tell you when she needs to go out. |
i do the puppy pads. i would rather him just go inside, unless we are outside playing or something.... i figure i have to clean a litter box for my 2 cats, whats 1 more box ;) |
I have mine trained to do both. During the day they go outside. If one of them needs to go potty during the night, they use the wee wee pads. We have harsh winters here, so if there's a blizzard or sub-zero temps, they go on the wee wee pads. I think it's whatever works best for you.:) |
thanks ... anyone else? |
I MUCH prefer outside training!! To my dogs it was just too confusing!! Darla was pee pad trained and it worked ok for a while but after I had to train her to go outside it was very confusing for her. Now she is 6 months and totally housebroken. Reece (10 weeks) is being outdoor trained and does VERY well!! He sleeps with us at night and holds it all night and we take him out hourly during the day...I suppose pee pads would be great for people who work out of the home. Dawn |
I couldnt get mine to peepad train so i trained them to go outside |
For people with attached garages, I have always trained them to both go outside and in the garage on pads. That way, at night and in bad weather, we don't have to shiver or get soaked.:D I just hang bells on both doors. They catch on fast. |
? we are not home during the day and dont want her to have to go out when it gets coldd or raining ? Would she be really confused with being trained to do both? what is the best way to show her both? |
Morgan is left alone during the day too and she can hold it till i get home. she's only 5 months old. and as long your puppy learns to go outside and pee real quick then its not a problem in the rain and cold. morgan is in and out. |
I tried to train our toy poodle to use the pee pads only, but she much preferred to go outside. With Abbey we are only training for the pee pads now. We tried outside and pads, but she is so small, the grass really bothered her when it was wet and she would scratch and roll around and try to get back in the house. So, we went with just the pads. She seems to know that it is ok to 'go' while outside, though, because she goes when we go for walks on a sidewalk or pathway. So far she is doing great on the pads. We have them set up in our bedroom and another in a box in the living room. It is really convenient for us and her. We are taking her with us to visit friends this weekend and I am hoping the pads will continue to work there, too. I really wish my Katie would use them as well!. I also think it will help prevent 'accidents'. Katie rarely has accidents now, but it does happen at times. This way, Abbey should always have a place to go when she needs to, whether we are there or not....and heck it is nice not to have to go out in the rain and cold and the "dead of night". LOL Ellie |
