Does anyone else have this problem? I have the hardest time being firm with Wesley and Maddie. I know that I am a big part of why they are not trained as well as I would like them to be. I just can't seem to punish them when they do something wrong. For example, when Wesley is doing something that he shouldn't be doing, like he grabbed somthing off of the coffee table that he isn't allowed to have, I will tell him "NO!" But whenever I speak to him in a firm voice he comes over and sits right next to me looking up with those big eyes. Then all he wants to do is set things right so he tries to lick my face. Or sometimes...this is the one that really kills me...he'll hold his paw up to try and shake because he knows that is something I like him to do. I always break down and end up cuddling him. Does this happen to anyone else? Or am I the only one? |
Hi there, I do find it hard to be cross at those little faces. Being firm is important tho. There's nothing worse than a badly behaved dog - no matter what the size! Hugging them when they do the right thing is the right thing to do! If your dog stops the bad behaviour and comes and sits when you tell them to PRAISE PRAISE PRAISE. It's sometimes easy to forget to praise the good behaviour cos we don't notice it as much as the bad behaviour. :p |

I'm with ya...I do find it hard to be firm with my babies. All I can say is I try my best and as of now they are pretty good!!! I do agree it is important to be firm with them even if it breaks your heart. |
Well, if Wesley stops doing what he was doing that was wrong, then I think you've achieved your goal. I don't see any reason to punish any further than that. |
