Relapse!!! Ahh! Howie has decided to be a rebellious little 6 month old. The only time he will consistently go on his potty pad is first thing in the morning. I have no idea what happened. A few weeks ago he was going on the pads about 80% of the time and now it's closer to 30%. I'll sit with him in the kitchen (where the pads are) for a half hour (or more!) waiting for him to go potty and he refuses. Less than 5 minutes after I finally take him out b/c he's snoozing away on the kitchen floor or aimlessly staring at me he PEES ON THE FLOOR. Also, when I'm in my office I leave a pad on the floor and he's always been so consistent with going on that. NOT ANYMORE. He'll pee 3 inches away from it and then look up at me for praise. What do I do? Will he grow out of this or do we need a new training plan? |
I would appreciate any advice on this matter also! Our Yorkie is 10 months old, she would consistenly only go on her 1 potty pad but lately she is acting like she has never been potty trained. She literally goes anywhere and everywhere... even inches away from her bed and toys. It's so bad that if she were to be put into a crate she would probably go in the crate! I've heard of dogs who were diligently housebroken being perfect for years and then a 3 year old dog all of a sudden going all over the house out of nowhere... why is that? |
Is it some kind of phase they go thru to regress like that? I started having problems with kizzy going more in the house again since she was spayed. I thought that had something to do with it. She was doing so good before. seems she is getting a little better now but now she sometimes poops at the back door then rings the bells or comes to me whining telling on herself. and sometimes I can leave her outside for an hour on the deck and she can go out in the yard at anytime yet she apparently doesnt till she gets back in the house then 5 minutes later she pees near the door. |
I heard from a trainer that they relapse in this aspect as well as what they've learned regarding the commands. Let's see if anyone else here knows more. |
I would love the answer to this. My Coco has been 100% potty trained but randomly for like a week every 3 months, she'll just go REALLLLLLLY close to the pad  I don't normally catch her, so I can't even do anything about it. But putting toys around her pad helped me with her, but I have no idea why the relaps happens  |
Thanks for the advice so far. I don't know what to do with him! I ended up basically carpeting half of my living room with puppy pads. I even got the housebreaking spray - which I'm convinced either does nothing or my dog has no sense of smell. I wish he would grow out of this already! |
Same thing here. My yorkie from the first day we brought him home at 3 months was great with the pad got it right away. He is 5 months now and this past week has decided that he will pee on the pad but not poop on the pad. I have stopped him and placed him on the pad and he just holds it. This morning he held it for half in hour while I was in the room, and went I went to get his food went on the floor next to the pad. I WAS GONE 2 MINUTES. He actually waited till I left. I swear he knows what he is doing. I have been thing of switching to the Pup Head Potty system. Since he likes going to the bathroom outside as well. Has anyone used this system? Or should I stick it out with the Wee Wee pads. I think I am going to try the Pup Head potty system. I live in a condo and have a patio. I would eventually love to keep it on the patio and let him out there to go to the bathroom, I hope I can get him to ask to go out there. Oh the joys of raising a pup!:) |
