punishment... whats the most harmless punishment for my yorkie but still get the message thru?? i really don't want to spank my yorkie, but i dunno if i want to use the water in the spray bottle...because i don't want him afraid of water...so what can i use?? |
I don't think he'll be come afraid of water if you use the spray. He won't generalize to that extent. I would just go ahead and use the spray, cause like you said, spanking or hitting, is no way to teach/learn. You could also try canned coins...good luck, and remember, hitting is a source of relieving your frustrations and isn't beneficial. |

Ha ha, OK Sissy started running off my porch again today, I just filled a plastic fruit jar with a handful of coins and shook it at her. It DID get her attention fast! |

something to try... the trainer i have suggested (when someone is home ONLY) to leave snickers in her harness/leash and when she does a behavior we are trying to stop you can step on her leash (if she is running away or with a toy you dont want her to have etc) and then put the leash on a doorknob and she has a "timeout" for 30 seconds... and you ignore him/her but that 30 seconds doesnt start until they stop crying/barking etc and when you let her out of time out dont go crazy over her then its like a reward... just undo the leash from the doorknob and allow her to join the rest of the household i havent tried this myself yet so i am anxious to hear what other YT'ers have to say about this... |
I just clap my hands really loudly and tell them NO in a stern voice. This always gets their attention and they stop whatever they are doing. |

Sounds good to me BUT only if her leash is connected to a harness and NOT a collar:( I might try this myself with Sissy |
When Dudley misbehaves I put him in a 5 minute timeout in his x-pen. I do not talk to him or look at him or pay any attention to him for the entire time. He is so smart he knows that he had better kiss up because he always wants to be the center of attention. It works for me. |

HA HA HA I tried it last night when I got in! too funny, can Yorkie's give down right dirty looks? If so, I got one last night, this morning I took the leash out and wala, I never had to step on it, she listened. Many coincidence tho, seems to quick to have made an impression:D BAMA YORKIE MOM: I also got thru that. Poor Chloe :( , she has always been such a good girl, I only had to ask her to stay or walk with me and she always did. She never heard me raise my voice or say no, until Sissy came along. I KNOW exactly what you mean, Chloe has the same look, isn't it sad for the innocent one? But what else can we do:p |
