Just wondering So I'm finally seeing some success with training my 11 week old yorkie Miso. I've tried the pee pee pads and since that was a giant flop I ended up taking my friend's advice and using a bell method. Everytime he had an accident I gave him absolute hell for it by saying no like 20 times and rubbing his nose close to it and it nearly killed me cause I knew he hated it. Then I made him paw at a bell on the door and took him straight outside. The next day he didn't have one accident, the second day he regressed and the punishing started again but here I am on the fourth day and he has not had an accident within the past 2 days. So I really recommend the bell method or the scratching door method it has done wonders for me, because I was seriously going crazy with having to follow him around everywhere with a nature's miracle stain remover and some paper towels in my hand 24/7. It was so bad I swear I had nightmares about cleaning up his poop, but just wondering (finally yes I know) I'm also using pee pads in his fenced area so when I'm gone for over 3 hrs I leave his crate open but this crazy dog tears it to shreds and I am finding crystalized urine everywhere on the floor everytime I'm back from classes so please give me suggestions because I think I'm going to start having nightmares about this too. :p |
Training does take time and discipline on both your parts. It sounds like you have a good start, the way we did it was with following him around 24/7 for a while. Also, we tried to let him out every half hour onto the pee pad, then we gradually cut it down to longer times. Yoda got used to peeing on the pee pads and then started to alert us (with a look or a bark at the door) when he needed to go. If you have a area you can fence off, like in the kitchen, with a vinyl floor or easy-to-clean floor, it may be an easier area to clean up. Good luck training your little one, Yummy84! |
Sounds like he is getting the hang of things! We have started our first week of the "get tough on training" with our puppy Tia, and she did SO well on her first day today. I attached her to a lead and didn't let her out of my sight all day. She went peepee in the laundry room (not on the pad, but it is an improvement over the carpet) EVERY TIME today! You just have to figure out what works for you, be consistant (which we weren't until now) and go from there! I wish you continued success! |
Gucci at the beginning did shred the pee pads. I was constantly telling her no. I even got a Training pad holder, which work for a little while until she learn to scratch to brake it. She eventually grew out it and stop shredding it. She is 9 months old now. Training pad holder at petsmart Potty training consist in being consistent and patience. Im glad that you little one seem to be adjusting to the bell training. Godo luck. |
