what should i say to her....... Hi, my puppy who's 6 months old doesn't get the concept that she has to go poop outside all the time and not once in a while. She usually pees outside but i have to constantly watch her inside and take her outside pretty often so to avoid accidents. How come she can hold her pee for hours when she's in the crate and when she's out of the crate she has to go every 30 minutes?:( Also, everytime i catch her pooping inside she gives me this careless attitude and just keeps on doing her business while i am scolding her.I'd usually say "No ! Bad Girl ! " when i catch her on the act.Am i saying the wrong words? What should i say in that case? She doesn't seem to get it! |
No matter how I say this it will sound like I am being a smart elec:D , I don't mean to, but.... Dog's don't understand english, they understand body language and tone of voice. You might try saying NO and pick her up and take her outside (during the pooping process) :D Yorkies can be difficult to house train. You must be patient, persistent and perservere and really praise her when she get's it right. |
i think it just takes time and patience. romeo used to pee outside and poop inside on the wee wee pad. i started walking him with another yorkie and he copied his behavior. no he's no problem. he pees and poops outside. i always say riley potty trained him to go outside! funny but true. yorkies training yorkies. who knew?;) |

She isn't giving you attitude. She probably either doesnt understand or can't hold it. When you catch her (and you are watching her at all times, right?) say NO! or whatever to kind of interrupt her and then scoop her up and take her right outside. For this stage, it helps to keep a short leash attached in the house - unless you have a fence or whatever. Then give her a yummy treat (kept in your pocket at all times!) once she is done outside. Here's a tip - try walking her. Loki can't hold it more than a block or two when we walk, even if he goes in the yard before the walk. She can't poop more than 3 or 4 times a day, so then you KNOW she's empty :-) |
It's not that she can't hold it. It's that she doesn't have to hold it. How come you can hold it all night but not during the day. Because you are up moving around. It is not easy to get the message to them that this is the worng place and that is the right place. You just need to keep trying different things. Till you figure out how to get the message across. Mine know that in the kitchen to use the pee pad, but in the living room they don't know that. So I just keep them in the kitchen until I have time to watch them and after know they have gone outside. We're still working on it. You could try putting her on a leash and keeping her tied to you so you know when she is about to go and then rush her outside and praise her. It's not easy. We all share your frustration, but keep telling yourself, she is not doing it deliberatedly, she just doesn't know any better. Have you ever potty trained a child? that's not easy either and they speak our language. LOL I would not give her run of the entire house until she knows where she's supposed to go. |
You can only scold her for pooping in the house if you catch her in the act of pooping in the house. You cannot punish her after the fact because she is not going to remember that she did that. If you catch her pooping in the house, you need to clap your hands really loudly, say NO in a stern voice, pick her up, and take her outside to finish up. If she finishes up outside, then praise her and give her a treat and then clean up the mess she started inside. When she is not in her crate, you have to watch her like a hawk!!!!!! These little guys can be so sneaky. |
I agree with everyone. It just takes time. If you cannot make her stop while in the act by saying "No!" then try making a loud noise to distract her. Bang on the counter or hit a large pot with a spoon and tell her "No." Maybe that will get her attention. It has worked for me. Good luck, potty training can be frustrating. |
