9month old training... is it too late? snickers was in a puppy training class at 12weeks.... then she was sick and couldnt go and then there was some family stuff that happened and we couldnt re-enroll right away... i ran into her trainer and she offerred to put her back into the puppy class that starts in 2 weeks and do the whole 8wks over... so i agreed and we are restarting training but does anyone know how it works out when they go back to training so late.. . snickers has a bad habit of making a beeline for the door running off so that is a concern and also peeing on the floor when i am not home (she goes on the pads when i am home)... but do people generally have luck training thier pups later than the recommended training window of around 12wks? Thanks in Advance.... |
Training At Any Age I have been training Kia since I got her. She is now 3.5 years old, and we are heading for Novice Obedience Trials next week. She has two legs of her Novice Rally-O title, and we hope to finish her this autumn. No dog is too old for training! |
I'd say no dog is too old to train. Just keep it fun. And that'll help with the recall (ie when she makes a beeline for the door if you call her with a really happy fun excited voice she'll think "hey mum sounds like she wants to play a fun game with me - I'll go and check it out" and never tell her off when she comes back to you even if she's been playing up. Lots of praise so that the best place to be is by your side. Can't help with the peeing tho. I haven't got that one cracked with the evil wee - thankfully Dougal can use the cat flap. |
