Please...help Me
 
We are taking care of my aunt's older Maltese while she is away on vacation. Mimi (Maltese) is normally very quiet and friendly. However, she is NOT getting along with Stanley. She barks soooo loud and we have to separate them. She growls at Stanley every time he gets close to her. Is there anything I can do to make it easier for them to get along? Please help...she is staying here for 9 days and today is the first day! I would appreciate any bits of advice.

how old is your baby, She may just be trying to tell him to leave her alone...Have they been around each other before..she may just be scared alittle bit, they should calm down in a day or two....:)

I had the same problem with my Tinker when Tootie came to love us.. after day 1 or 2, Tootie figured out that she was NOT interested and they have their own little private "agreement"... LOL... usually they manage to let each other know where the boundaries are. Sometimes, I let Tinker get on my bed without the ottoman step and he cannot get her..

Have you ever watched the dog Whisperer?
You need to remain calm and be assertive. Head up Sholders back. walk right up to her, look her in the eye, and point your finger at her and tell her NO in a calm manner.

Stand between her and Stanley and do this until she calms down. When she is calm and submissive, then you can pet her.

You need to let her know that, that type of behavior is not allowed.

Stanley is about 8 months old. Maybe it's because she isn't socialized a lot. I really do hope they get used to each other. Poor Stanley seems sooo sad...he probably thinks we're replacing him :(

Tootie'sMom: Thanks for the compliment on the name...it just fitted him soo well lol.

JeanieK: I have never seen the Dog Whisperer. I hear about it a lot. Is it on cable TV? Which channel? Thanks for your advice, I will definitely stand in between them. She is calmed down perfectly when Stanley is in his cage and she is out around the house. When I put her in the cage and Stanley is out, she barks SO loud, it's this loud screeching noise and I know the neighbors will complain...so I leave her outside.

I keep my sister Chi long time ago, and she wasn't very socialized, it took awhile for she calmed down & if she isn't use to being around puppies it might take her alittle longer, They should become great pals before all your hair is pulled out...lol:rolleyes:
