Chewing My two yorkies are a little over a year old (14 months). When they were really young, they used to chew on things such as flip flops, corners of walls, corners of the coffee table, etc. They grew out of that phase but just within the past month they've gone back to chewing! I have given them different types of chew toys to occupy them but if I leave them out of their crate while I'm out, I'll come home and find something chewed up. It's always something different - mail, a bluetooth earpiece to my boyfriend's phone, some wooden puzzle. The crazy part is that they get it all off of the coffee table! We make it a point not to leave anything at their level but I don't want to have to clear EVERYTHING out of the room! Any suggestions on what I could do for my pups to keep them from chewing my stuff?! |
If it's left where they can reach it, then it's fair game. Hopefully eventually they will stop doing it, meanwhile you just have to keep things picked up. They don't know that they are doing anything wrong, they are just doing what dogs do. |
Yea, it just seems weird to me because it was like we had them trained then they went back to it. They did it when they were young and then we taught them not to but now they're doing it again. I just need some tips on how to train them a better way because obviously my way didn't work. I know that things left at their level are fair game but they're jumpers! They can get onto most pieces of furniture and I don't want to have to put EVERYTHING away when I leave home but I also don't want to have to cage them when I leave every time. :( |
