retraining my yorkie question Hi! I have a 3 year old spayed female yorkie that our family is very attached too, however, in the last six months or so, she has been having frequent pee accidents in our new home and this of course has been extremely frustrating. We took her to our vet and ruled out anything medically wrong so now we are at a point where we either give her away or retrain her all over again. I don't want to be unfair, but I am really frustrated with her right now. My question is this, is this common for yorkies and if so, are they easy to retrain? Thank you, Stephanie |
Did you crate train? Crate training is a great tool to re-establish for her where the doggie bathroom is! If you recently moved, that may be contributing to the problem. Try crating her when she cannot be monitored or when no one is home. This way she does not have the opportunity to have accidents. Then praise her like you would a puppy when she goes outside. Use good treats, make it worth it for her! Also, have you thought about putting up bells? Maybe you can't tell as easily when she needs to go out, or maybe she hasn't figured out how to tell you? If you train her to ring bells when she needs to go, that not only allows her to tell you but it gives her attention for doing the right thing, which you can then praise and/or treat! |
