Ahh Help Me Please! Okay, I woke up this morning to find that Stanley had chewed off a good chunk of the nightstand by my bed! I put him downstairs for about an hour with some toys. When I got back downstairs I find that a whole chunk of the wall had been taken out!! He stands there with white stuff all over his face looking up at me. I am so frustrated I don't know what to do. Our nice couches are covered with cardboard in the corners since he did chew off a part of our couch. Parts of our walls are covered with single ceramic tiles since he chewed off parts of that also! He has such weird mood swings...one moment he'll be calm and friendly. and the next, he's like a crazy animal! When he's crazy, he'll be running around biting everythign he can on you in sight. Is there ANYTHING I can do to calm him down? |
I would check with your local pet store. They do have products that you can spray on furniture that will (or is supposed to ) stop them from chewing. I have also heard hot pepper juice. I'm not sure about that one though...you don't want to make your baby sick. |
You can put clear deodorant on the wall |
WOW! That's one serious chewer with some serious chompers! I don't have any advice for you other than to try those sprays like was suggested. Hope you find a solution! |
haha knowing Stan, he will probably eat the deodorant too! But I'm definitely going to try that! |
The only other thing you could do is confine him when you are not right with him. Chachi chewed up alot of shoes, My area rugs, and the cord to our xbox. He outgrew the chewing stage and your dog will too. |

Thats what I was going to tell you to do was put a cover on it. I dont know why some dogs try to climb out of them and some dont. I have an xpen and mine never try to climb out of it. I didnt notice any difference after neutering but my dogs are 1 and have definitely calmed down from the puppy period. |
The spray stuff is Bitter Apple or Phooey. Seems to me like you would have to spray everything in his reach and that does not sound practical. Maybe some in-home private lessons with a trainer or a sesson or two with an animal behavior specialist? Is there any predictability to the behavior? |
I would suggest a wire crate and some stuffed Kongs. Beyond that, definately contact a trainer. Good luck! |
You are not alone 2 Attachment(s) look what Chance did to my wall today...I'm not very happy. But I have to forgive that face. I'm a sucker!:D |

Is your pup teething? Make sure he's got plenty of his own things to chew. My guys ALWAYS have rawhide to chew and tonnes of their own toys to destroy and I haven't had any chewing issues. (I don't know if what I did stopped them or I was just lucky.) Good luck! |
If he's teething, lots of chew toys definitely work to keep them from chewing other things...and crushed ice works too, for us anyway...it's safe and they LOVE it. As soon as they hear our icemaker going...they get VERY excited. ~Marly, Shylah and Brynna |
Get him a friend to play with. My pups do not chew because they don't stay still long enough. They are always going and going. |
