Won't "go" Infront Of Me Hi everyone, my pup is 9 months now and he REFUSES to go in front of me. He is inside trained and when I want him to go, say before bed when I know he hasn't gone in awhile and I can literally feel his belly exploding, and put him on his pad, and say the usual, go pee pee, he just stares at me like, well go away and I will. So I seriously have to walk away, half way up the stairs and wait until I hear him come out of the bathroom, signaling he is done. Now my problem is when he decides to get off the pad when I walk away and go on the floor. How do I correct this, if when he is going, I can't be around to grab him and put him back on his pad??? He does do well most of the time and this really isn't too much of a problem because like I said he usually does on his pad, but I can not for the life of me get him to go on command without having to walk away. HELP! |
This is a more common problem than you'd think. Seems some dogs are quite inhibited by our presence. Try using "calming signals". Move away from pup, but where you can still see him. Turn sideways and yawn. Do not look directly at him (too much pressure), but just watch from the corner of your eye. Yawn. Act interested in something else. If he does go with you close by, throw a party (ie act really excited) and give him a delicious treat. Oh, also, I wouldn't correct him for pottying off the pad for the first few times that you are trying to get him used to pottying with you nearby. Wait until he's more comfortable with your presence. Good luck! |
