Street noise Couldn't find this covered in YT, so thought I would try: our 15 mon. yorkie is scared of ALL outdoor noises; e.g., busses, loud cars, lawn-workers, nearby carpenter sounds, etc. We have had him since March, so any effort to outdoor train is useless if there are noises. Can't wait until 4th of July! Any thoughts?? |

Thanks.. good idea...we usually pick up the little guy and bring him back in the house ...or he drags us in. Maybe we should bring him closer to the noise source and try to assure him t'ain't nothing to be scared of. |
Thanks... Have usually picked him up and brought back to house, or actually, he drags us back in...we know that isn't the way to do it...we are the boss..sometimes! Like the idea of bringing him to the sound instead of away from it. |
thats what I have been doing and it has worked pretty well. Max isn't as afraid of sounds anymore...thank Goodness, cause he is 3 months and 30 pounds, alittle harder to pick up than my yorkies... our neighbors behind us had some trees cut down a few weeks ago, it was like a three ring circus, but I took Max up on his leash( alot of noise) he got scared and was trying to go back home, I picked him up and stayed there for about 15 min. holding him and that seem to help alot.. |
Since I got Max I am learning that I have to be the Alpha in the house, only problem is telling that to Lexie & Peanut...Its sad cause Max is so good about doing what I tell him and I have to be so strict in away, but Lexie & Peanut can get away with murder...but they are learning who the boss is... yeah right..lol Hope it helps you, I am sure more YT will have more ideals... |
