Need help desperately! Greetings from Miami - this is my first post. I find this forum fascinating. Everyone here seems to be an encyclopedia on yorkies. Here's my problem: My 5-yr old male yorkie is constantly asking for my attention. As I type, he's barking and scratching my legs and the chair. I don't know what to do any more. He used to play with his toys and be in another room of the house at times, but now he wants me to either carry him or pet him all the time - the only time he leaves me alone is when I'm taking a shower. What can I do? It is just the two of us at home, so he's alone when I'm at work. When I come home from work, I immediately take him out for a walk, but lately he's been having accidents before I get home. Does anyone know why he's acting this way? Any suggestions??? Help me please!!! |
welcome to YT. I am sure you will get several suggestions to your question. As I am typing my 5 yr old is scratching at my chair for the same purpose. they hate for me to be on the computer ignoring them. I just pick him up and place him on my lap.(giving in to him). the proper way is probably just to ignore.)guessing here, I am not a trainer) but I can't seem to do that. the difference in yours and mine is that they are hardly ever left alone. they are either with me or my husband. have you fixed him a place he can potty through out the day if needed? pee pad or litter box? sorry I am not much help. |
Welcome to YT! I'm not a trainer either fyi. I know that Chewy gets bored with the same 'ol toys and I switch them out every now and then, getting rid of his old icky ones. That seems to help us. He loves fun and new toys. Good luck! |
I wish I could be of help. Just wanted to Welcome you. Hopefully you will find someone that will be able to give you some great answers. Good Luck. Have you thought about maybe getting him a friend to play with. |
Welcome to YT. I don't have any answers since Sissy is almost 11 months now. But, she loves to be on my lap when I'm on YT, too. I am home a lot, so she loves to be with me. She will occasionally play with her toys or curl up in her bed, but on my lap is her preferred place to be. When I'm not at home, the downstairs bathroom is Sissy's domain. I don't know if Frakie's recent pottying is to get attention or not. Perhaps confining him when you are gone would be better? Hope you get some replies from more experienced people here. |
He does have a "just in case" spot and doesn't have accidents often, this has only been during the last week. |
Thanks for your welcoming message. I did buy him a female a couple of years ago, but he wouldn't play with her much. He's just toooo spoiled, I guess. |
MAybe have him checked for a urinary tract infection. CAli peed on my bed a couple of weeks ago and never ever did that before even as a little puppy and then had an accident on the carpet. I took a urine sample in and sure enough she had a bad urinary tract infection. After a few days on theh meds she was much better. Just a thought. |
