UGHHHHH is how I am feeling today! Okay I am sorry but I just have to vent to someone. I have a 7 month old baby boy and I feel like he is NEVER going to get potty trained fully. We just started crate training him since he was having occasional accidents in the X-Pen instead of using the doggie door and now he just has occasional accidents in the crate - UGH! Do these type of dogs ever ACTUALLY get trained to where they are 100% potty trained? I am starting to wonder.:confused: Also he refuses to eat in the AM - it does not matter what I do - he just refuses sometimes. Sometimes he will eat when I hand feed him but other days he simply refuses. I hate to give him other things to entice him to eat because than it just promotes his bad eating behaviors but than I just worry sick all day because I know he is in his crate and unable to eat and I fear he will have another hypoglycemic crash - ugh - what’s a mother to do. Don't get me wrong I LOVE, LOVE my baby boy but some days I want to just pull the covers over my head and say I give up. These Yorkies are so finicky! |
Kids will be kids! ;) Maybe he will never be fully potty trained but don't give up just now. When Mitzi came in my life (resp. I came in hers, sorry!) she was already 4 y.o. and not at all potty trained. Now she is 9 and with a lot of patience and a strict schedule we avoid (almost) all accidents. And then... they are soooo small and their accidents are not a big deal (literally), at least not for me. :) |
Well I guess I am the last person you'd want to hear from. Nikko is a year and 2 months old and he still is not potty trained. I have given up the fantasy that he ever will be. But like someone else said, I take things in stride and just have a mop bucket handy whenever I need it. Their accidents are so small they really aren't a big deal. Of course I have wood floors so that makes things easier for clean up. |
How much does your boy weigh? I think it's perfectly ok if they don't eat but once a day, at that age and if they are a respectable weight, especially if they are choosing not to do so. I would not worry too much about that. Millie gets finicky too and can eat very little for a couple of days and then she starts eating again. As long as you keep the food out and it's there for them, to eat or not to eat, then let him make the decision about whether he is hungry or not. Yes it is possible to get them 100% potty trained. You just need to be 100% committed and do everything that is necessary to get it done. For some puppies, it just takes longer. Thats all. Just stay persistent. |

I take him out several times when I am with him – take him on long walks, tell him to go potty and give him tons of praises and treats to the point of where my neighbors get comic relief out of seeing me do the “I am so happy you went potty out side for mommy dance”.:bravo: He has occasional accidents in the house and that is what I do not understand but I guess he is still a puppy. Thanks for all the advice – it is nice to have people to help me calm down when I think the world is falling down around me. |
Reuger didn't get totally housetrained until he was 10 months old. As he grew his housetraining would get better and better until one day I noticed that I wasn't cleaning up any accidents anymore. He's only had a couple since then and he just turned a year old. Just give him some time. Some pups seem to figure it out sooner than others. Just be consistant. It'll happen. As for food, I put Reuger's food out all the time but I notice that he only eats once a day and that some days he eats more than others. I would think that with him being 4 lbs that you wouldn't need to worry about his blood sugar unless he's sick or just not eating at all. |
Katia was fully trained at 8 months so yes they do get trained. Just keep at it and you are doing it the correct way with the crate training. It will happen. |
