Several Issues....let's start with housetraining! Help! My baby's name is Gilbert. I have tried everything with the whole housetraining. He is 8 mos the end of the month....what am I doing wrong? I work out of my house so I am able to take him out regularly, but a lot of the day I have to keep him in his pen b/c he pees on the carpet. I can take him out and he will pee 3-4 times sometimes ( I guess marking?) and then come right back in and pee when I'm not looking. I am so frustrated b/c he sleeps with me and has only had one accident. We go to bed sometimes at 930 and he can hold it until about 630am. I have been putting a pee pad in the pen while I'm working, especially if I have to leave. Is this my mistake? I've been reading other posts and they say I shouldn't. I fell bad that he can't have more free time since I'm home a lot but I can't trust him if I'm not staring at him every minute!!!! Any advice would be appreciated....and I'm just gettig started folks....:confused: |
problem Why not get some belly bands..they will prevent him from ruining things..you have to prevent bad habits..I never let a male go without a supply of belly bands for the new owner. |
What exactly are those? I've heard people talk about them but not sure what they really are. |
try to take him out every hour and clean the spots where he has accidents they go in the same places over and over when they smell it puppywraps.com has belly bands. |
I think you'd like belly bands. I use washclothes and just wrap one around my guy's stomach (over his wetter!) and pin it with a diaper pin. Then I can let him have full run of the house and if he does wet - he doesn't ruin my carpets, etc. My dog is 10 months old - and almost never wets in the house if I take him out every couple hours. His belly band is usually dry before we go out - I take it off and out we go and he pee's outside. Then when we come back in, I put it back on. (And now that he's getting older and doesn't pee as often - he really doesn't need to wear it as much as he used to). Good luck..... Remember bellybands have absolutely nothing to do with potty training your dog - they are only to protect your carpets, etc. My dog has actually gotten outdoors with his on - and has run over, lifted his leg, and pee'd on a shrub (or at least tried to).
