Yet Another Potty Training Question Okay, so Mia is slowly starting to comprehend the function of the wee wee pads. (She used to lie down on them ) Well anyhow, this smartie girl walks into her playpen all by herself, jumps on the wee wee pad and goes pee pee right away, then she wags her tail in response to our cheering :cheer: and she gets a yummy mini Zukes treat. Right afterwards she goes poo poo on the carpet :( We don't say anything and clean it up. If we don't pick it up right away, she starts licking it and that's just ewwww. She kisses us with that mouth, so we really don't want potty-mouth Mia. She seems to think wee wee pads are just for pee pee. Is there a way to show her that she is supposed to relieve her intestines on the wee wee pad as well? I thought about putting her poo on the wee wee pads, but there is the issue of sniffing and licking as mentioned above. What do you guys think? |
I have heard first off that a dog will usually not go pee and poo in the same areas, so I believe several people have two different pads one for each. Reagan goes outside so I'm not sure of this. The other thing I have heard is that you are supposed to pick up the poo and put it where its suppose to go, show the dog where it goes. When I heard this they were actually putting it outside but I'm sure it would work for pads too. Maybe you can show her where it goes then take her in another room and get her distracted then go remove it and dispose of it. Mainly show her where it goes then take it away so she doesn't mess with it. A friend of mine told me that you also aren't supposed to let them see you cleaning up their mess, don't know for sure. Anyway you could remove it while she is busy so she doesn't see it. Whatever you choose, I'm sure she'll come around soon enough. |
