litter box/pee pad help Hi, I am new at this thing but I have a little boy named Copper, hes so much fun but his potty issues are making me crazy- he was understanding the litter box thing for awhile ( I have the dog litter box with dog litter under a pee- pad beucase Cop tries to eat the dog litter) anyways he stopped going in the box all the time and just goes in there when ever he wants. I will tell him "no no" when he goes in the wrong spot, and put him in the box but he just doesnt understand. I need help- I am moving in less than a month and wanted him to be potty trained before we go to our new apartment. He is three months old on thursday so i would think he would get the whole potty thing by now? Any tips to get him to go in the box most of the time haha that would even be nice. he seemed to have forgotten how. |
My little guy is only a few weeks older than yours and he too has relapses.. My suggestion is to be patient and consistent. Make sure you take him to his potty spot at the same time every day. Keep a "journal" of when he eats and when he goes potty so you can predict his routine. I've read that some yorkies can take up to a year to be fully housetrained. Unfortunately they're one of the hardest breeds to train.. I guess that's why they're so darn cute! And when he does get it right make sure you shower him with all of the praise you possibly can. After my pup goes in the right spot he walks around with this look on his face like he's the king of the world. Good luck!! :) |
litter box problems? when you had him using the litter box, was it when he was confined, or does he have the run of the house? today was the first time i allowed lexy free reign of the house, and she has actually done BETTER than when she was confined. i don't know how this happened, but now that she doesn't have to go through a door to get to her litter box, she actually goes potty there with no accidents! but then again it's only the first day.... |
Haha, yea Copper was in a small area for awhile then when he was getting the hang of it we let him in the whole room. (not to big but its my bedroom) he got it for about a week then he started pooping where ever and same with the pee. He seems to somewhat remember right now, when we are in the same room watching him, but even when i just went into the bathroom he took the oppertunity to poop on the carpet. haha. But we give him lots of praise when he goes in the right spot, I dont really know what else i can do im home with him all day and he just choses when to be potty trained, hopefully it doesnt take a year haha! |
Spoke too soon.. Yeah, Lexy "got" it for about two days, and then started with the accidents again. I just tell myself puppies have short memories, and that sometimes they just need to be reminded. Lexy usually has the most accidents in the morning, but once I "remind" her where to pee and poo, she's usually good for the rest of the day. So I watch for her first pee and poo reallll closely in the beginning of the day, and then let her have more freedom the rest of the day. |
