two pups? Hi, I'm not exactly sure where this thread will fit, so I'll put it here for now. For those of you who have two Yorkies, are you glad you do? What are the good things and bad things about it? Do they get really jealous of each other? Is it hard to give them both the love and attention they want/need? Is the first one still as bonded to you as before the second came along? Any other insights about getting a second furbaby would be appreciated - both pros and cons. Thanks, blueannie14 |
I have 2 babies and I don't regret it at all. At first I was a little scared about getting the second one. My boy is such a good boy and I didn't know what my second one was going to be like. They do have different personalities. My boy is such a cuddler and my girl doesn't like to be picked up as much. I have noticed that my boy is a little jealous. Everytime Mimi tries to get near me when I am talking to them he jumps in front of her and sits on my lap. They play and then end up fighting every once in a while but I tell them to stop and they go their seperate ways. Another thing, they sleep alot and I think it's because they play so much that they get tired easily. My boys is 15 weeks and my girl is 11 weeks old. If you are thinking about getting a second one...I say go for it! I love having two babies. |
no one else has any experience with two Yorkies you'd care to share?????? please? omega |
I have two they are a month apart in age. They are really good together. Chachi is the alpha and Jewels is the follower. They did everything including potty training together. I really enjoy having a male and a female. The only downfalls were it took longer to potty train two. There is extra expense not only shots and vet visits but heartworm and flea preventative. And it is harder to take two somewhere with you as oposed to one. |
well, I do not have two yorkies, YET, but I do have other puppies with Tootie. I find that it helped him with potty training and socializing. he is VERY jealous but they have learned to work it out... |
I just got 2 yorkies about 2 months ago.. I recently got a 2nd yorkie male, he was 10mo when I got him and although I paid decent $ on him the lady lied to me about many things- so he needed extra tlc like a somewhat rescue yorkie would need. I don't really regret getting him, I just wish I would have known that he needed alot of TLC and rehabilitation on behavioral probs but other than that, Lucy gets along great with him and she is definately the apple of his eye. He loves her and has adjusted to us gals very well. It is somewhat different if you are getting a new pup though I think..but I do have 2 and it really isn't any harder than having one. We still have the same routines..like potty together in the morn, going together in the car and bathing on same days. The only thing I notice is sometimes I will feel bad having them take turns if I do not take them together on everything like a walk with a stroller and 2 dogs without a coupler yet. It is just that Milo is not as well behaved as Lucy is..but they both get equal turns.:p |
I often wonder what having 2 would be like ..Mini would love to have a playmate and me ..I just love the company and fun they bring not to mention all the love I can give them~ |
I have a 7 yr. old male yorkie (kobe) and a 12 wk old female yorkie (kali). It is defiently more work. Kobe is so loving and laid back. Kali is the complete opposite. It took 4 wks. for Kobe to get off the couch and get on the floor when Kali was out. She is very aggressive and sometimes she will nip at his legs. We have made huge strides since Saturday and Kobe is staying on the floor and playing with her. I would not trade Kali back for anything but I forgot about how much work the puppy stage is. I think if the 2 were closer in age it would be a little bit better. |
I guess I'll be finding out first hand cause of the little girl I'm getting next week! They are going to have so much fun together, being only 4 days apart in age. I can't wait! I know it will be more work, etc... but I don't mind that. I've had dogs most of my life and am used to it. omega |
I think I'll be getting another one sometime this summer. I too am both nervous and excited. |
I am getting Shylah next week and I am nervous how Starsky my 16 month old will react. He has always been the baby. I just will have to give him a ton of attention when we get her. I also have a 7 year old beagle that may not be too happy either. (another leg biter!) |
Two are better than one!!! I have 2 female yorkies, Keisha was 2 yrs old when we got Jersey at 8wks old in Jan/06, Keisha is an active ball crazy, doesn't sit still dog, but always knows where I am, and needs to near me, sometimes on my lap but mostly on the floor close by. Jersey is my lap baby, is quiet and content and thinks Keisha is crazy with all the ball chasing and running around all over the place, Keisha didn't like her at first and was very jealous of her, but now they play together and always know where each other is. Keisha still growls at Jersey if she gets too close to her while she's sleeping, but Jersey's getting closer all the time, and I think she'll win Keisha over. I say two Yorkies are the best, one active and one not so is even better you get the best of both worlds, they keep each other busy when you can't, and I think they keep each other company and out of trouble!!! |
Two are twice as nice I have two male yorkies and they are 6 months apart. Whisper is one year old and Cody is 6 months. I got Cody at 12 weeks and I must tell you I felt really guilty for the first week or two. It has been 3 months now and I am so glad that I have him. They love each other so much. I am a stay at home mom, but when I go out to run errands, I don't have to feel guilty about leaving one home alone. Whisper would get so sad when I had to leave him home. |
Well, I now have two... thanks for all your responses! I got the one that was posted on here from VA. I just picked her up last weekend. She and my other one are just 4 days apart. So far, they love to wrestle and wrestle and wrestle... I have to separate them to get them to take a rest. I'm assuming it will slow down a bit after a while. (I hope so anyhow!:D ) We're all getting settled in and getting used to a somewhat new routine. So, we'll see what happens. At least they seem to like each other and haven't fought at all - except over bully sticks. It's so funny cause no matter how many bully sticks I put out, they both want the same one. :) omega |
i have 4 yorkies and they all get on well and are treated the same. when tye and zac who are twins where born they bonded from day one and are still as close now 12 years on.:) |
