Me again... I don't mean to be monopolizing this thread!

We just got back from a walk at our favorite park. Being a weekday it wasn't real busy, and Ginger can never resist barking at everyone who comes along the path (on a really busy day she's too overwhelmed to bark). Well, today, the first time she started to bark I pointed and said buzz...it worked! Eventually, I quit pointing and just said buzz, and by the end she wasn't even attempting to bark.

What is this little miracle??????? Why does it work??? And when will it stop working???

i've seen Cesar do that too on TV. I've wanted to try it but i don't have a dog. LOL

What Im doing wrong? I have tried buzzing and yes she will stop for a bit and then she will start at it again. Exactly what you guys are doing? :rolleyes:

ive always just stuck a toy in there mouth instead of your fingers they dont know any better thats how they play with there mother and siblings :D

I laughed when I first read this... and we tried it at home... it does work if he hear's us buzzing... company thinks it's the funniest thing...!

Okay so i'm definatly gonna try the buzz thing with my Scooby and Scrappy. They bark like crazy when the garage door goes up when hubby comes home.

could anyone tell me what time or day the 'dog whisperer' show comes on, would love to record it. Is there a book that has been put out or something. If so who would it be written by.

I tried the buzzing sound and Max just looked at me like I was nuts! He kept barking! He mainly goes crazy barking when I am getting ready to leave the house or he is in the window and birds are outside. I guess I will have to keep trying.

buzzing didnt work for me either! he just got louder.. i must be doing it wrong

Hi all,

I have had great luck stopping the barking by using a "Bark Can" You simply take an empty soft drink can and put some pennies in it. When your little one starts barking you shake the can. The first time if they don't stop or they continue barking after a minute....toss (not throw) the can toward them. This startles them and has worked like a dream for our Schnauzer and Silkie Terrier we used to have and works now for our new little Yorkie, Taylor. I have had bark cans posted at different locations in the house....usually where the dogs could see chipmunks etc so I would have one handy. It might look like you aren't very tidy leaving cans around but it sure stops the barking! After they get the idea about the can.... you will sometimes have to barely rattle it and they will stop immediately.

Hahaha that's the technique the "dog whisperer" used on that SouthPark episode on Cartman. LOL. Cool to know it actually works, though, that's amazing. I'll keep this in mind!!

I'm in the central time zone and The Dog Whisperer comes on on Fridays at 3:00 pm, 8:00 pm, and 11:00 pm and once on Saturday. It's on the National Geographic channel. I love this show. He really does have a way with dogs. He's really into the "leader of the pack" and that's suppose to be the human...hmmm...doesn't always work that way with me. I would have to say out of my three dogs, a 12 year old "pound pup", a 1 year old Yorkie, and a 6 month old Maltese, my little Rylee, the Yorkie, can sometimes step up to the challenge and assume this role of pack leader.:) Hopefully you can find the show on your channels. It's a good watch!!!:thumbup:

Well.....yes, I'll try....but I usually don't have my camera as ready as the "Bark Can" at any given moment. It does work...at least it's worked for our 2 dogs, our Schnauzer and our Silkie Terrier and they were constant barkers. It's been working well for "Taylor" our new Yorkie pup. Good luck and I'll post a video if I can "Mulit-Task" :)

I am such a Dog Whisperer devotee. I have seen every show and have Cesar's book. You would think maybe I could have two well behaved dogs! Scout is sooooo bad about barking at the door and at people in general. There is an episode about a dog who thought he owned a photography studio, and Cesar did that whole "shhhht" thing with him too and it worked.....IT did work for my dogs too, for awhile....then Scout got immune to it or something. I do my utmost to project "CALM ASSERTIVE ENERGY" and he still goes off the hook barking at the door. Falls under the "If I could change one thing about my dog" category.

I tried the bark can, and it DOES work most of the time. It's a pain when you have company and have to stop everything to rattle your can (it's kinda loud..hehe) I think I will do what you said and get several of them for around the house. I will decorate them so I can distinguish them from regular drink cans and DH won't throw them away (I live with Mr. Clean himself). It does seem to startle Scout into hushing. I wonder how long it will last. I wonder if it would work outside?
