biting, Help hello my remmie is teething he is 18 weeks old today and recently he has started teething on us when he is trying to play. he bites are feet when walking, when sitting on the sofa, and nipping at the little one (human). and suggestions? i have tried to give him a toy, or pinch his lip on his teeth. but its not working and hubby is threatening to get rid of him. ( he would never really do it but he is really mad) any advice would be greatly appreciated!!! |
Be patience. When he bites tell him "No" on a stern voice and give him a chew toy and ignore him. Do not play with him if he bites. You can try spraying bitter apple in the areas where he bites. Gucci use to nip when she was a pup when she was teething, but she out grew it; So there is hope. Remember he is still a puppy and you need to be consistent and patience. Good luck. |
The best method to go with is to yelp in a hight pitch like a wounded puppy everytime he bites and walk away "to lick your wounds". You want him to understand that if he bites you, he can't play with you or be around you and has to be gentle. He will catch on real quick if he wants to be around you or play. Saying no in a firm voice works for some but I have found this method the most effective way and it is in dog talk so that your puppy knows what you are trying to say which is 'that hurts, I don't want to play with you or be with you because you are too rough, you have to be gentle to play with me." If you can try to get hubby to do this, he might feel ridiculous doing it but once he sees the end result he will be very pleased and glad he did it. |
Thanks i have the bitter apple and that works pretty goode but i didnt know if we could spray it on us or the other dog too. he is really rough with little girl she is older and a little big bigger and she doesnt want to play like he does. i noticed that he must have bitten her on top of her head because she had a scab and a little pink bite mark. all your suggestions really help thanks i will keep trying with the "no", walking away and bitter apple....THANKS |
Our guy is 14 weeks and has the same problem. We tried the Bitter Apple... it was a waste of 6 bucks... he doesn't mind the taste! |
