Bad uncle/dad I lost it today and spanked Sophia's butt when she refused to drop a chicken bone at the park and come to me. I would have settled for one or the other, but she ignored me, so I went over and gave her a swat, not hard enough to hurt her but hard enough to startle her and cause her to let out a yelp. The reason I'm confessing is because I learned my lesson about 5 minutes later when Jack found another chicken bone and started chewing on it. Jack had been right next to Sophia when I swatted her. As soon as I said "Leave it" to Jack, he took off running toward home. Jack NEVER leaves my side on walks. But no matter how loud I yelled, he kept running. Ran all the way home (about 100 yards), crossing one small, neighborhood street at a court. The neighbors must still be laughing, a 49-year-old man chasing a 4-pound Yorkie at full speed while hauling an 8-pound Yorkie in his arms and hauling a 6-pound chihuahua on leash. Having learned my lesson, I didn't swat Jack when I caught up to him on our front porch. But he didn't continue with our walk. He seemed a little jealous when the rest of us headed back to the park and he had to stay home alone. |
We forget how smart these little guys are. Glad no one got hurt. I'm sure he was very upset at his time out. I know mine would have been. They love to go whether in be in the car or for a walk. |
I am sure all will be forgiven shortly. Don't beat yourself up to much. |
Poor babies only wanted to have a picnic!! lol Sometimes you have to do something for their own good! It's just like kids. |
Sometimes you have to do what you have to do. Better a little swat than to get away with a chicken bone. That could have been bad. I hate when people throw food on the ground. Sophie found a hot dog at the park the other day. I had to stick my fingers in her mouth and pry it out. GROSS! We don't give her people food so I didn't know how she would tolerate it. I don't think she got much. |

Haha.. I'm sorry Mike but picturing what your neighbors musta been laughing at cracked me up too :p. Eddie is one smart boy! He's like Tucker, you don't have to spank him, he's mortally offended by the words "bad boy" and sulks for hours! |
First of all you are NOT a bad Uncle/Dad! You were looking out for Sophia's best interest and I think you swatting her was out of fear for her more than anger that she didn't come to you or drop the bone. I would have freaked if it was Jazzie and would probably have done the same. I know it's tough keeping track of 2 Yorkies and you had 3 kids to keep an eye on! I'm just so glad and relieved Jack did not get hurt. How observant, smart and devious he is! I would HATE for you to have to leash the kids! Why can't people take care of their trash??? Is it possible for you to reward Sophia, Jack & Eddie when they find bad thing and give them something better? If they know they get something super yummy maybe then you can keep them safe and pick up the bad things. I hope you don't have to leash them, that would be such a shame. |

Oh that Jack - He's smart as a tack! :D I bet Eddie thought it was hilarious when Dad was playing chase with Jack. I'm glad everyone is well and safe. I'm soo glad that NZ is so clean and green and trash isn't really a problem. The only thing I've got to watch out for is poo and dead things! There's nothing yorkies like rolling in more than Horse, cow, sheep or even possum poo!  |
