I've had both dogs and cats forever - and have often brought a new kitten or puppy into my home. I had one cat that was fast freinds with two of my dogs. I mean they played, jumped on one another, and chased each other around the house constantly. My other cat basically ignores - but tolerates - the dogs. And - they pay very little attention to the her. ------------ I think what is happening with your cat and dog is about what I'd expect. To some extent, they will have to work things out for themselves. But, for a while, I would discourage the pup from bothering or chasing the cat - about the time he gets scratched on his nose, etc., he'll learn that cats aren't "toys" and will learn to respect and stay out of the cat's way on his own. Again - I would discourage him from chasing and bothering the cat. Someone needs to take the cat's side...... I don't think it's fair to the cat to expect him to have to put up with this. Before long, they will become friends or more likely just learn to tolerate one another. Good luck! Carol Jean |
a new update on my cat dog introduction: so they have been under the same roof for two days now.... i mean, he arrived monday night. yesterday though, the dog barked at something but the cat came out of her hiding place to watch.... i think she realized he was not that old?? bottom line, now she isnt hiding behind the tv or under the desk anymore, she is laying in the bed in the guest room, i saw the dog go in several times and she didnt show her teeth or grew bigger in size, she just observed him a lot... he even pooped there next to her (sorry, trying to show him the wee wee pad, but you know how it is) and she wasnt freaked, this morning i heard her eating in the kitchen, but for now i am keeping agapi with me and only allowing contact for a minute or so until she feels better.... |
also i am happy she seems a bit more relaxed, and this is bringing our family closer together, we live (for a short time) with my 24 year old step son (i am 29... so go figure that) LOL and he seems to love the dog, also my stepdaughter (14) keeps calling and is coming over on a school night to be with him... so is great!!! |
do anyone here know if those aromatic things that you plug in actually work??? my vet recommended it.... they look a lot like the regular ones that you plug in to make the house smell better, but this one is for pets.... i got two so i will see what happens :) |
