How often do you let your yorkie out of their "home? I have a 4 and 1/2 month old who is trained to go on pee pads. Her "home" is an x-pen, and she'll always go on the pad when she needs to go. However, when I put her out of her pen into the living room to run around and play, she'll have an accident 40% of the time on the carpet even though I have a pee pad in the living room. Is this because I give her too much space? Is it impossible to train her so that even if I dont' watch her 100% of the time (for example watching TV or cooking), she'll still go on the pads? How often do you let your yorkies out in your living room or bedroom? |
Holly is free out of her pen when ever there is anyone home. At 7 months she isn't completely reliable, but a lot depends on the person in charge. She will scrape at the door sometimes if she needs out.Otherwise I have to be sure to take herout every couple of hours, after a sleep, play etc.She is good about only chewing her own chews.toys etc. She is in her pen while i am at work,or the children are at schol/uni. |
I don't know about pads because Loki is trained to go outside, but he only goes in his crate now when we leave the house. By 10 months I'd say I stopped putting him in the crate when I was showering or could not let him out. By 1 year old he stopped having accidents. He has some other medical issues though, so you might be able to do it sooner. Anyway, now he just lies outside the bathroom door and waits for me. And yes, if she's having accidents it's because you are giving her too much freedom and not watching her. I had to watch Loki "every single second' at 4 1/2 months too. Also with the pads, I could be wrong, but what if you only have one in the kitchen? Pads don't feel that much different than carpet, so you need to teach her one single *place* to go, not a surface to go on, or she'll be peeing on all of your carpets. I say stick to the one pad in the kitchen/expen or whatever. Dogs like to pee on carpet for some reason, so you need to teach her not to go anywhere near the carpet. |
zoe will use the pad 100 percent of the time during the day then at night she would go on the bedroom carpet. Someone told me the carpet feels like a pad to them and confuses her. we have no eliminated the pad and trying to train her to go outside only. |
