Yorkie is wee wee pad trained but i want her to go outside too!!! HELP My 11 month old yorkie is fully wee wee pad trained... However, when I take her outside she holds it for the entire time (even up to 4 hours) and then runs for the pad when we get home. ANy suggestions on how I can let her know she can go both places? |
I hear ya!!! I'd like to know the answer to this too! I have read that if you take puppy outside as soon as it gets up in the morning and absolutely HAS to go then it will. I have been actually thinking about a small turf filled indoor potty to get her started and then taking THAT outside. Should have seen my DH's face when I told him I was looking for a way to grow grass inside! I'm sure interested in hearing what all those "PROS" out there think too! |
We too have a little one who potties 99% indoors and we would love her to go outside...Magic is fully trained outdoors and we always let us know when she needs to go out..but Sailor is indoored trained...not sure how that happened but she prefers to go indorrs but it would so much easier if they would both go outside...but haven't found a way to really switch Sailor...when we take walks she will hold it the whole time and then go once we go home...it cracks me up...any advice would be great!! |
Whenever I have Stewie inside and I see him sniffing I say "make potty" and he'll go over to his pad and I praise him and sometimes give him a treat. I do the same thing outside "make potty" and he knows he can/should go outside. It has worked so far for me! |
How about cutting up a pad in 4 and taking one of the pieces out with you. Give the potty command and love 'em up when the deed is done. Eventually make the potty pad piece smaller and smaller until it is not needed. Maybe I'm being too logical. Might be worth a try though. Lisa |
carters mom...i like the way you think! brilliant! thats what i'm going to do, it makes perfect sense. |
We have tried to associate a word with getting them to use the paper. I have been somewhat successful with getting them to pee using the word outside. I do like the idea of taking sections of pads down and using treats to reward. I just had to share this funny thing I found online having to do with indoor grass. I have to admit I am considering it! http://www.petapotty.com/ |
I haven't tried this, but someone once told me you can place a pad right by the door in the inside and one right outside the door when you first start taking them outside to go potty. According to this person, it works out great when you have a doggy door. I haven't tried that method yet. My baby goes inside during the day (while I am at work) and goes outside when I am home. I have to always encourage him to go outside though since he is still in the learning phase. When I tell him to do his business, he knows that means to go potty (either inside or outside). |
