Potty training
 

My doggie wont go on the pad. Any advice? He smells it and goes to the carpet, when I see him aquatting I sa NO! and put him on the pad and he runs away from the pad to the carpet, if its just pee and I see him going on the carpet, and I say no he just stops and if i put him in the pad he walks away and he will even hold the pee forever until im not looking to go on the carpet but absolutely no way hell go on the pad. I crate train him at night but not during the day bc im home all day. I would like him to learn on the pad more than outside bc i have a baby (a human one haha) who sleeps a lot during the day and cant always take him out for a walk. So yeah I need help. I swear he purposely does not want to go on the pad :( oh one more question, do those sprays to potty train help? thanks.

does he pee in the same spot on the carpet?

i had to same problem then i started using an expen (with his bed and food on one end and a pee pad on the other end) after about 3 weeks, i let him run free with the door open and he just run back in his pen and goes on the pad. i've tried using the potty training spray and it does work.

Nope, just anywhere. I covered the laundry room with pads a couple of hours ago and put a gate on the door, so tomorrow morning after I take him out of the crate, im going to put him in there and not let him out until he goes and then every 30 minutes ill be putting him in there and of course give him a treat and say good boy when he goes. He will have to go there bc hes not getting out until he goes, my house is starting to smell even though i always clean up after him and i really cant live in a stinky house.

That is one of the best ways to train them. Mine all hated the pad, I just had to be persistent and they knew that they were not going to get out of their pen until they went. However, when you put him on the pads make sure you are there to watch him and reward him the instant he goes, if you step away and he pees, he may learn to never pee in front of you thus making housebreaking alot harder. I had this problem with my trixie for awhile. She woulden't go on the pad until I left the room meaning that she would not go to the bathroom outside because I was there. So finally I sat there and waited to where she could not hold it any longer and had to pee in front of me on the pad. I rewarded and now housetraining is easy. Also, it is good to give them a command that they will recognize in the future, such as "go potty". That way when they hear the command they will know what is expected of them and will make housetraining go alot faster and be alot easier. Oh and I have used those sprays to teach them to go and where to go and they never worked on any of my dogs, so it would be a waste of money in my opinion. i read in a housetraining book that when the puppy goes potty on the carpet, to take the scent and rub it on the pee pad. it seems to have worked for tucker.

I just went to my vet yesterday because of my housebreaking issues. He said that some dogs do not like the scent on the pee pads. He thought I may want to change the type of litter that I use, and get rid of the pee pads. (that works for me- it is a whole lot cheaper!!) Right now I am using a litter box, lined with a puppy pad and dog litter. I am going to get unscented cat litter (non-clumping) and use that alone in the litter box. Pray for me that this works!! Just another thought you may want to try. I will let you know if I succeed!!!
