bathroom trained My last yorkie was a big yorkie and was outdoor trained. I felt so bad because there were times (we have such violent winters here) that he had to go out and even though he was a tough guy, he would cry. Pee pads have saved me here. My dog came to be SO smart and stubborn. We would be an hour plus outside...he would not go. I have a flexible job so I am home more BUT I can't keep standing an hour plus outside multiple times of the day and that is what was happening. He would not "go" and had the most amazing puppy bladder I've ever seen. I have the pad in the bathroom and he is doing great with it. I also have him now trained to go on command. He is going outside now although it still takes quite a bit of time. If I am working at the rink and it is pouring rain, I can take him into the ladies room...put the pad down and say "go pee" and he does. He would get soaked outside if it was raining and I had to bring him into a cold rink. Also, my schedule is wacky so sometimes I have to feed him and leave. Poor guy would ahve to "hold it" during the wrong time. The pee pads give him the chance to be able to "go" but I ONLY keep them in the bathroom or by the backdoor (where he is penned when I leave). Before we go to them, i say "bathroom??" and make him watch me put them down so that he knows he can only go on there and not just the area. I am going to switch to the wiz dog when we are home for expense reasons and again, keep it in the bathroom. To me, there are bathrooms everywhere and if he ever makes a mistake...I'd rather him make it in someons bathroom then on regular carpet. suzie |
