Biting My 9 week old yorkie Miso is consistently going after people's fingers, toes, clothes. I wouldn't mind him biting me except the fact it really hurts, his teeth are a lot sharper than other puppies that I have dealth with and I need him to stop. I'm fully aware that they are teething but I really need to stop it because its to the point where people bleed when he bites them.So far I'm trying to tell him "no" in a loud firm voice and move my hand away slowly to make him not think I'm playing with him. However I'm not having too much success right now but I'm trying to be patient...has anyone else had this experience and how did you make your yorkie stop biting? |
It's a bad deal isn't it! A trainer that I know suggests yelling "ouch" to startle them. And then of course give them something appropriate to chew on. Good luck!!!!!!!!!! Also, after the 'ouch', ignore the action. Don't give them any attention while they are biting other than correction. |
Biting 9 week old Female My 9 week old Female Abigail does the same thing she is relentless! Her nickname is Bear Cat or Tasmanian Devil, she is constantly biting my full grown male Artie. He jumps on our bed or the Chairs to get away from her. With me she bites my feet and hands, some times while I'm walking! When I say "No" she does not respond so I yell "Hey" and she stops in her tracks, and if she catches me off guard and really hurts me I say "Owe" in a loud shriek! I've only had her for 2 weeks now and the first week she was wild. But now she plays hard and then sleeps for a long time. She seems to understand that I won't tolerate her doing that to me. So she rarely does it now a days. I'm sure they just need to told/taught what kind of behaviour is accepted. You have to act like your in control in an "Alpha" kind of way? Otherwise she or he will walk all over you. Artie is very sweet & mellow, but that Puppy stage is a challenge, he's older than her (1yr. 3 months). So I'm sure she will grow out of it, I know they are Teething but she's not going to use my fingers as a chew toy. I also give her something to chew on at the same time.....so she know's she can chew on things that she is allowed to chew on, just not me! Good Luck! |
I feel your pain, literally! When we got Reese three weeks ago she really only had a few teeth and it didn't hurt when she would chew on our hands. Now her teeth are killing us. I can't stand it! In the morning when I am trying to get ready she is biting my ankles and toes. I have been spraying the bitter apple spray on my feet and ankles so she will be less tempted to bite them. It seems to work. I also obviously tell her no in a stern tone but she will stop and then when I look away goes right back to it. If I figure anything else out besides the apple spray I will let you know. I just keep praying that she will grow out of this stage. Good Luck! |
