The new regime has begun I was getting sick and tired of toby's accidents all over the apartment, the smell is AWFUL (any suggestions for the smell??? i really need the odor gone it is gross).... anyways, he WAS trained and then he regressed... so now we have a new system, it is called the dog goes outside on teh balcony and uses the damn pee pad out there system...... it is actually working quite well, he doesnt mess in teh house, and i still dont have to walk all the way over to the public doggy parvo pit potty area, and if he makes a mess not on the pad i can easily wash it down with water :p i hope this works...... hes doing ok so far |
i've been using Nature's Miracle (thanks to yorkieagility) and it seems to be woker pretty good. i also bought some stuff from walmart Get Out and used it when i shampooed my carpet, it worked pretty good too. |
Odor Eliminator!! I dont know how this will work,, but its worth a shot, it works great on cat urine in carpet,,, and there isnt much worse than that smell... hers is the concoction..... 1- bottle hydrogen peroxide(normal size) 2- 1 tablespoon baking soda 3- 1 teaspoon dawn dish soap mix together in container,,, and pour on spots, or put in squirt bottle. let spots dry about a day, and vacuum. do not store in containers... will explode (or something) Works great on cat urine spots give it a try,, might want to do a test spot, but it had NEVER done any discoloration to my carpets. |

You are just too funny!!! :) |
I use Woolite carpet odor & pet remover. It said it's safe to use around pets and children and it smells good! Try it, it might work for you! |
I use Carpet Fresh for pets..$1.59 at Publix...just sprinkle on the carpet (more in soiled areas) leave on for 15 minutes (I usually leave on for 30) then vacuum up...be careful to get it all up and do it while your pet is in a crate or somewhere away from the product, as things like that could cause an allergic reaction... oh yeah, are you spraying your "spots'' with a vinegar/water mix right after you clean it up? This will help keep repeat offenses off the same spot  |
i am going to wal mart tonight, so i will get some stuff and try it out i think i will try them in the order they were posted :p im sort of panicking because smeone from maintenance is supposed to come and inspect our apartment (i dont want it to get back to managment that our apartment reeaks like dog pee) thanks for all the suggestions |
Orinskye - Wanted to say that I am happy to hear you are feeling better, you sure were sick for awhile there!! Regarding the smell, I promise that "OdoBan" from Sam's Club works. My breeder friend turned me onto this stuff and it's all I use anymore...Love it!! There has even been a male stray cat outside "marking" on our deck at night so Ive been using the OdoBan on it also. Nothing worse than male cat pee in my opinion! Glad to hear that Toby is doing his business like a good boy where you'd like him to go. |
I use odor ban too and I can't say enough good things about it. It really works. I use it for cat spray also. There is almost nothing that takes out cat spray smells but this does. Even if its been there awhile. I get it at Sams club also. |
OH..and most importantly..OPEN THE WINDOWS!! FRESH AIR!! |
I do the balcony thing with my two babies. I think it works pretty well for those of us in apartments. We also put chicken wire up because they could fall through if we didn't (and we live on the third floor). I'm glad it's working better for you! |
Also, be careful about washing the area down with water if he misses, depending on if you have neighbors below you. When we started this in November, no one was below us, so we didn't care. But about a month or two ago, a woman moved in below us and now we feel bad doing that. And now that the weather is getting nicer, we've actually seen her out on the balcony, so we try not to do that. So just be careful!! |
Orinskye Where in California do you live? Can you buy this product anyplace other than Sam's Club? |

After reading this I'm soooo happy I don't have any carpeting ;) . If she misses the pad (front paws don't count as on the pad!) I just pull put the ole' swiffer and problem solved. |
I was at Wal-Mart today and saw carpet shampoo that was lavender scent. It was made to go in a Bissel carpet shampoo machine, but I read the bottle and it said you could also use it in the machines that you rent from the store. I thought I would try that since I have not found the ones you buy that go in the rented machines to smell that great. By the way, this Lavender shampoo was on the isle beside the bissel shampooers at my Wal-Mart. Another trick I use to hide doggy odor is mix some Lavender and Vanilla Downy fabric softner with water in a spray bottle and mist away. It smells wonderful. Another good use for this mix is to clean your appliances with it. It really helps to detract dust from sticking to them. My fridge is black and it seems like all the dust in my house goes straight to the front of the fridge. I read this tip in Heloise and I must say it works great. I even clean my kitchen counter tops with it. People always come in and ask what smells so good. They laugh when I tell them it is Downy. |
as to the "watch the person below you" comment.......... im lucky, i dont have anyone below me, we live right above the garages and the drainage is off to the side in a little bush area.... so we are situated perfectly..... gosh you guys have great suggestions |
