I wanna walk yorkie..but he doesnt have Rabies shot The title explains it all. My yorkie is 2 months old. I KNOW i am not supposed to walk him without the rabie shot, but I am having such trouble with the weewee pad business. He wont go on the weewee pad. Only by luck sometimes. I bought that spray bottle where you spray the weewee pad and the dog smells it and goes there, but I can hardly say it works. I want to try taking him to do his business outside, but the rabies shot is another 4 months away! |
talk to your vet. ask about the risk of rabies in your area. happy training! :) oh yeh.. the spray really works for us. did u spray enough? |
thanks! how much spray is enough??? I lightly sprayed 3 times on each weewee pad (3 in total in the area where he is) |
3 shots of spray should be enough. maybe he's not old enough to be attracted to it. i just saw another post stating to put their pee pee on the pad to attract them. although, i never tried this. |
Are you sure on the age for rabies? Here the vet offers rabies shots after the pup is at least 12 weeks of age...definitely sooner than 6 months. Any way to get rabies an animal must come in contact with an infected animal...unlike parvo and others that can be caught by visiting areas where they have been present. I'd say walking in your yard would be fine. My pup, Ramsey, went outside in our yard from day one. |

I am not addressing you (Ritkaa) personally. This is for all who believe a puppy should be trainable at 8 weeks. An 8 week old puppy is equivalant to a 14 month old child. You would not expect a child of that age to understand the potty training. And to complicate things, there is a language barrier. They don't speak human and we don't speak puppy. So it's like trying to explain potty training to a 14 month old foreign child. Many of you bring this 8 week old puppy home, show them the pee pad, and expect them to know what to do with it. Or you sit the puppy on the pad and then repeat pee or potty or whatever over and over. The puppy has no clue what is expected of him. I suggest that you put the pad where the puppy chooses to potty and then praise him when he accidently goes on it. Because the first few times are going to be total accidents. Also just because they are trained in one room of the house does not mean they will be trained in all rooms. Try to think like the puppy thinks. His world is very small, and each new room is another world to him. I hope this helps. I am not trying to belittle anyone, I don't think anyone is stupid, I'm just trying to help you understand why your puppy isn't "getting it". |
You say you spray something on the pee pad to make scent that is where they are supposed to go. Don't pee pads already come with that scent on them, or am I dreaming that up?? |

My vet said my dogs could be outside in their yard only when they were little before their shots |
I had an 8 week old puppy, shes now 10 weeks old. We havent had a problem peepad training her. My question is how many room are you limiting her? are you letting her run the whole house? becuase if you think of it 600sq is like running a football field to go potty? maybe limit how many rooms she has access to??? Also when we started to train her she prefered to go potty in the area we hung out in. So we put her puppy pad there. |
Rabies is not an air born diease. You can still take him out without it. As long as he has all his other vaccinations. And keep him away from other animals. My Petey has not had his rabies shot yet, I know here in Florida you are suppose to get them by 4 months, but I just felt he was too small and I will continue to wait until he is a year old before he get his. |
My pup has gone outside with me for walks since I first got him at 8 weeks of age. But, of course, when he was little - these were little walks. I can't understand why you can't take your pup outside before he has had his rabies shot. I can understand not letting him around strange dogs, etc. --- but just going out with you keeping a close eye on him for a walk....??????? Carol Jean |
hmm..maybe thanks for all the replies guys |
