male yorkies I have just started house training my yorkie today. He was pad trained, because it was to cold to outside. The question I have is, can he be marking already ( he is almost four months old). This might sound dumb but how often does a male yorkie (4 pounds,3 months) go to the bathroom? He can hold it at night for up to six hours. I noticed that when he was using a pad that he would go a little bit alot, like the size of a dime. However, three times a day, he would go regularly instead of just a tiny spot. He will also do this in the house, rather than going alot he will just pee frequently about the size of a dime. I heard alot of male yorkies don't become mature until 6 months, but I wonder if he is doing this because he is starting to mark his terroritory. He does not have any health problems that would cause this, so do I sum it up to marking? Any insite or opinions would greatly be appreciated. |
my yorkie never marked. when he was younger he pee'd a lot of small stains on the potty pad. as he got older, he pee'd less often (like once every 4 hrs instead of once every 30-40 mins) as he older. he also pees more each time now. |
My boy marked as soon as I brought him home at about 14 weeks. He would lift his leg on anything upright. A basket I had in the house. Everytime I saw him do it I said no. So I have not seem him doing it lately in the house but I do see him doing it outside on the fence, any post ect. So yes...I think they can start this very early. I plan on having him neutred as soon as he is big enough. |
My guy is 15 almost 16 weeks and does the EXACT same thing. He doesn't really have full pee accidents in the house, hes had a few big pubbles on the tiles. But what he mostly does inside is leave these little dime size puddles. I also don't know what to think. It could be marking...he doesnt lift his leg yet tho. Hopefully after he is neutered it will stop. |
At 8 weeks, I had my little pup in a belly band when he had full run of the house. And, because I was constantly picking him up and playing with him, I knew for a fact that he pee'd every 15 minutes to half an hour. Then around four months, he'd go every half an hour or so - but surprisingly at times went three or four hours without peeing. As he has gotten older, he has become even better about not having to pee so often. Now at - almost 9 months - if I take him outside ever two hours or so, he almost never pee's in the house....and often when I'm gone for 6 or 7 hours (with him confined in the kitchen), he doesn't pee at all. I'm sure it varies - but I'm sure all dogs do better when they get a little older - and this definitely makes training a lot easier. I think little puppies are a lot like little babies - they just pee almost constantly - and even though we need to be potty training at this young age - being able to do what we want is hard for them to do. But, as time goes by, and their little bladders get stronger, all our efforts will finally kick into gear - and they'll do much better. Carol Jean |
