Hi ,

I tried the Can Trick with chester , it does not work. It only scares Chelsey.
So it worked for her. I heard that if a log is laying down they cannot bark at the same time. So we are trying that as well but when the door bell rings. The option is tell chester down. And he will not do it since he is busy barking. The other thing is we are in the process of running to the door so we can not pick him up and place him on our lap at that time. It is hard to get him to stop because we are always in motion for answering the door. He just won't stop until the person leaves or entered our home.

p.s usally when the door rings chester is in his play pen as we do not want him to run outside.

We still want him to let us know someone is there... we just want him to stop when we say quiet. Any help would be appreciated as this has been happening for 2 years now. Thank goodness Chelsey has not picked it up yet

Yizz I have to add my name to your list of admirer's here...I never heard of anyone actually teaching their dogs to bark...but what a fantastic way of teaching them "no bark" in the end!! You and your yorkie are very clever indeed and I'm going to begin teaching my Kady to bark today!! Many thanks. (And I'm new on msg brds too, third day actually...so from one newbie to another, good luck!! and again...my hat's off to you!!)

willowsmom here for the first time

willow is my beautiful yorkie....arent they all!:wub: we just absolutly love her. we live in an apartment (not for long tho) were moving in a couple of weeks to a house where willow can run and play in the yard. im trying to figure out what to do to keep her from barking while at work for the next couple weeks cuz the neighbors are complaining. is it mean if i put her in my room with all her toys her food and water and leave the tv on. i dont know what to do and i feel sad to keep her in my room, even tho its big. what do u suggest????

Hi willowsmom. Is she a puppy? If she is, it is actually a good idea to keep her in one puppy proof room while you are away to keep her out of trouble. Even if she's not a puppy keeping her in your bedroom with food, water, toys and the t.v. on is far from mean, don't worry. It's a good place to keep her. :)

Welcome to YT!!

had a male yorkie for 14 years and no issues with barking. Got a female and has been barking at nothing for the last 3 years, to be honest it has put me off yorkies for life and I feel like taking a spade to the little dumb F******, what makes things worse is if you tell her off she pisses all over.
Tried water, shouting, electric collar (ouch) you name it to no avail. the dog just has 'nt got the brain capacity to learn

If that is the way you feel about her then you should rehome her to someone that will love her no matter what. I know that baking can be annoying but you have to keep working on it, get a trainer or if that is not an option then give her up.
I think that You should just rehome her if you think that she is a dumb F, because if you feel that strongly about her then she is not going to get the love she needs

I just came home to a note on our door "TO THE OWNERS OF THE NOISY DOG!!!!"

How embarrassing. We live in an apartment at the moment and have floor to ceiling windows in the living room which overlook the car park. Max barks at EVERYTHING! Other dogs, people, cars, even the TV!

We're moving in a month to a new house but in the meantime I don't want to upset my current neightbours even more. I've covered the bottom half of the window so he can't see out, I am hoping this will stop him from barking so much.

Other than that, I have tried a whistle but he find this fun and barks along with it, "NO" doesn't work, clapping loudly, I will have to give the water bottle a try but he tends to love water from the shower squirted at him

He also barks at other dogs when we are out, only when he is on his lead, if he is off his lead he will run and go play with them but this is also a pain as other people get wary of him.

I really want to stop this barking as it's getting a bit much and we don't want to annoy our new neightbours when we move :os

We've just got a new pup, Harvey, and don't want him picking up this habit.

Have any of you tried Bark Off???

I bought one today for a dog I am dog sitting that will not stop barking like crazy at every little noise.
It looked good on TV and in some reviews I have read...
I still need a battery (tomorrow)...

Is your gf aware of how you feel about her dog? I doubt any yorkie owner would want someone who is liable to go off on the poor thing just for barking would want someone like you around their dog. I know I wouldn't.

Anyway, I was actually checking to see if anyone know's of anything to make them not bark when I'm not at home. He has learned that barking in the house is not acceptable, i.e. when I get home he is quite as a bug waiting for me to let him out of the kitchen, however as I pull up to my house I can hear him barking, and my landlady has told me that before/after their afternoon checks for food/water and heat he just barks and barks. I know it is because he is lonely, and I wish I could be at home with him all day, and having him stay with my landlady would solve it, however I'll only be here for another year and a half and it is doubtful I'll have the same set up at my next location (not sure where yet) so I would like to find a permanent solution to try out while I'm here since my LL doesn't mind the barking, and she is my only neighbor close enough to hear him yapping.
Any suggestions?

Higgins COMES when I blow the harmonica. Wonder if he will stop barking if I blow the harmonica.....Where is my harmonica????
:o

My wee yorkie starts to sing (i.e. howl) along whenever my son plays his harmonica, but I love it!

I have tried a water bottle, beeping collar and I don't know what else to do! If bikes go by and kids run by or people are walking too fast, she barks and doesn't stop until they are gone! Please tell me that this is because she is only six months old. She is totally potty trained, can sit and lay down on command so I assumed I could get her to settle down with the barking. Does anybody know or tried the citronella collars, I hear that they are safe? thanks!!:)

Yep - sounds familiar! Much as I love and adore my yorkie, his barking is the one thing that is driving the whole house nuts! Thinking of trying the spray collar myself, though I'd prefer a solution that didn't cause any distress. I hate to tell you, but (with my own dog, anyway) the barking doesn't get any better as they get older! If anything, my dog (who has just turned 1) is barking worse now than when he was a pup! I do sympathise....anyone know WHY yorkies seem to bark more than most other dogs (apart from chihuahuas and jack russells!)?

According to Victoria from "It's Me or the Dog," the best solution is always positive reinforcements. Treats work well. It takes time and training, but what we've started doing, as suggested by Victoria, is to get the dog to focus on you. Hold a treat next to your head and say, "Look at me," or, "Focus." When he/she does, give a treat. You will want to do this before the dog is in the bark situation so he/she learns the command. Again, it takes time, but it is working with my Yorkie and my parent's.
