Potty frustrations How do I get my 10 month Yorkie to tell me she needs to go out? If I'm not watching her and her usual strut at the moment she needs to go out, she'll go on the floor . My other Yorkie barks when she wants to go if no one is in the same room. How do I get Peanut to start "telling" us when she has to go? |
I read somewhere that most puppies have only about eight seconds worth of bladder control up until about a year old so maybe she simply doesn't have time to let you know. How did you train your other yorkie to bark when she goes? |
Good question, does anyone have any clues. My girl Sophie knows what to do outside, but would rather hide in the basement and do her thing. I walk her and she'll go and we praise her when she is good. I just don't know what to do, just keep on trying. |
Toki will only tell me when he has to poo if he's inside my room and doors are closed. He will bark to poo. But once he's roaming around the house he doesn't bark if he wants to poo and he will poo or pee in any corner to hide it. Im still trying to figure how to teach him to bark when he has to do he's business |
Joey rings a bell suspended from the back door knob when he needs to "go". |

Same Potty Frustrations Letting you know that I am going through the same frustrations that you are currently facing. I have a male Yorkie, Odie, and he just marks whenever he chooses. I am trying to litter box train him and have been trying for the last 5 months. I don't know what I am doing wrong or what I can start doing right. I think he doesn't like to do #1 and #2 in the same area (litter box). My husband and I built a home in October and will not have sod until around April 22nd. Until then I am so frustrated. Do you have other behavioral problems as well. I guess my posting will not help you much but when you find some answers let me know. |
I have potty frustrations too! I'm having a lot of the same issues with my 6 month old female Yorkie. She will pee and poo outside, but she doesn't seem to have any idea that she isn't suppose to do it inside also. The good news is, I'm not the only one having this problem. I thought it was me and that I just didn't know how to potty train a dog (although I have 3 other dogs, not yorkies, that are potty trained).. She is so good with everything else and is smart as a whip. But we can be playing and she will just squat a pee right in front of me!!!!!!! Will there ever be a day that she is allowed on the carpet? big sigh... I'm thinking about litter training. Has anyone had any luck on that? |
I am trying to litter box train Odie, but oh watch out. This is probably one of the hardest things to do. Even though I am trying on this he still loves to pee on anything, esp. anything soft such as carpet. I cannot wait until I get him neutered. I dread doing this but at the same time I don't. Odie is papered so that is one of the things that keeps holding me back, but there is nothing worse than pee & poo all over your house. I am going to try the back yard once it has sod in it and the obedience teacher I have spoken with thinks this will be the best thing. She also said that the other people she has come across that have tried litter box training have not had much luck with it. I just can't wait for the backyard. So I hope this helps you. It may be that going in a litter box is too unnatural for them. Who knows. |

Was it an easy task to teach? |

If not, most other websites seem to recommend either installing a puppy door (which might not suit you) or a bell. I found this on the net which looks like it might be quite good http://www.pamperedpuppy.com/puppytr...oor_bell_1.php and there's also this http://www.smarthome.com/62212.html. Perhaps one of them will be a good option :) |
I also have puppy problems. My dog Chewy just loves to go pee or poo in the dinning area. He goes on the wee pads a couple times but thats just out of luck. I put newspaper all over the dinning area just in case he wants to sneak around and does his business which hes very good at. I bought a playpen for him and everytime I put him in it he barks loud and wont stop intil I take him out. I guess he thinks its punishment but we thought he would like it....wrong. Any suggestions? |
Potty Training Blues :animal-pa We are training our puppy to go inside and outside. I use Arm & Hammer Puppy Pads inside and Wicket is very drawn to them. He will run to the pad (which we keep in a bathroom) anytime he has to pee, but he almost never poops on the pads. We still need to work on that. We supervise him constantly whenever he is out of his crate and are working on recognizing his signals (however subtle they are). I guess it's as much training for us as it is for them. I read an article about litter box training dogs this morning. The article suggested that you must first get your dog to eliminate in the same spot outside, then you can put the litter box in that spot outside (fill it with sod or paper) and see if he/she will eliminate in the litter box outdoors. If you have success with that, then slowly move the litter box indoors until you are confident that your puppy has the hang of it and then you can place it in its permanent indoor spot. One of these days they'll get it...in the meantime, we all just have to be patient and celebrate like crazy when they get it right! |
