Please Help! This is only the second post I have made to this forum but I have been visiting ever since we got our yorkie, Mollie, who is now 9 months old. She has a wonderful disposition and is just as cute as a button. She had been 99% housebroken until last week when on two occasions she pooped in her crate sometime during the night. She has been going through the night for quite some time now and so this was a shock to us. Well, after the two incidents she seemed to settle back into her routine and was fine until I went to get her up this morning and, lo and behold, she had done it again! Has anyone else ever had this experience with their baby? It seems like she is regressing. We have not changed her food or her routines in any way. She gets plenty of exercise (she LOVES her walks). I am hoping for some helpful advice on how to handle this. As I said, she has been going through the night for several months now so this is a complete surprise for us. I have gotten so much helpful info from this forum and hope you have some good advice for me :) Thanks in advance. |
My little boy is only 7 months, but he regressed too for a little while when we got our new little girl a few weeks ago. I know it's a different situation, but he has gone back to his good potty behavior. I've heard that sometimes yorkies will regress, so this is probably semi-normal. So try to stay patient and hopefully it will just be a phase. |
Thanks for the response. I hope you are right. She really is a good, sweet little puppy and never messed in her crate before this. So maybe it is just a temporary regression. I will try to wait it out. These forums are wonderful for those of us who have never owned a dog before, let alone a YORKIE!!! They are such sweet little animals and are so loving. I'm glad I found yorkietalk.com :) |
I'm just sorry I couldn't be of more help. I always had in my mind that it would take a good year until Hercules got the hang of the right place to potty. Maybe I was being overly pessimisstic so I wouldn't get disappointed. So to me, at 7 months for him, he's doing great. And for your baby at 9 months, it seems great too! I know it stinks when there are accidents in the crate, but hang in there. I agree about yorkietalk, I love having this place. Hercules was my first dog ever and I would have been lost without all the helpful people and posts out here. It's so great!! |
It Happens When I had my Yorkie, Lily it was very hard to potty-train her. Not to mention that when I was trying to potty train it was middle of winter and the snow was too highand too cold for her!! I bought those potty pads b/c she was so little and put them in the bathroom corner ( big bathroom). She got used to going on those. It would be really funny to see her get up and go to the bathroom to go to the bathroom :) Sad to say though I dont have Lily anymore but I know she probrobly still is trained to go on the pads. You will have to change them often though. Lily would not go on them if they were dirty  |
My Annabelle is crate trained as well. She regressed to getting up twice a night once to pee and once to poop. That about killed me. Finally I had to feed her earlier in evening, and take her for along walk at night. That elped considerably. Unfortunetly though since she is pregnant now she potties where she wants. I would rather be woken up at night. Good luck. :) |
