Pooh Issues! :animal-pa I need some help!!! My little yorkie just turned 4 months old...he's the best thing that ever happened to me, except for one thing: he is having some issues with pooping! He gives no warning signs that he has to go, so I have gotten used to taking him outside A LOT! He almost always pees outside, but can't poop because there are way too many distractions. I'm trying to teach him to go on the pads inside where he can't be distracted. He does well with peeing on them, but he basically refuses to poop on them. If I see him getting ready to poop, I pick him up and move him to the pad, but he stops immediately...he walks away from the pad and assumes the position somewhere else! He will poop anywhere but on the pads. I am getting really frustrated! I would appreciate any tips you can offer! |
Hi, and WELCOME to YT! You're singin' my song! LOL Abbie is 4months, does very well with having the "pee pee on the paper" (we use newspaper) down, but seems she doesn't believe in doing #1 and #2 in the same spot. I still find little surprises hither and yon. Thank goodness she's rawfed, so the stool is not as icky as kibble fed pups. I'm sure the more experienced folks will come by and we can both learn! They'll more than likely tell us - patience, Patience, and more PATIENCE. :) |
Similar situation here. My Yorkie is nearly 4 months old and is usually too distracted to poop outside on grass. He's generally good with peeing on the pad. I've moved the pad to my patio area. If I see him go into his "pooping" stance, I immediately say "NO" and scoop him up and put him on the pad. Since I've done that, he's sloooowly learning that's where he should poop, but he still goes outside of the pad. But I do see some improvements. So keep an eye out on your Yorkie -- whenever you see him about to poop, just take him and put him on the pad. I think eventually he will get the message. |
I have the same issue with my Tyson-one of the YT'ers told me to pick up the poop with the wee wee pad to get the scent on it. I did & Tyson did poop on it the next day. He has still had accidents but he did poop on it again. So it is working with the picking up the poop with the wee wee pad-slowly-but working. I have also noticed that he does not like to poop on the same pad he pee's on. This morning he pooped in my sons room-I got a new wee wee pad & picked up the poop-flushed it down the toliet & laid that wee wee pad down. When I get home-I will see how he did. |
The Pooh I'm sorry you are experiencing the same situation, but I'm kind of glad to know that I'm not the only one! We supervise him constantly when he's not in his crate because of this one problem! I'll keep working with him and hopefully someday soon he gets it. |
