:confused: Simple training tasks?
 

How old was your YT when they began to listen to the training you were trying to teach them? Our Daisy is 5+ mos. old and does not listen to her name. Could she be confused because her older sister's name is Kelly? Also tell us your methods of getting your YT to sit, lie down, etc. Send us pics

I began working with our first one Teddy immediately when he
came into our home. He was a very eager learner and knows a
ton of tricks. Now, Toby is a different story...he has a mind of
his own that's for sure. I find it's harder trying to do the one on
one that's needed with 2 of them in the house so I think that is
contributing to him not learning like Ted did. I am hopeful that
with time and some obedience that he will come around too. so,
to answer your question...I think each yorkie is different where
the learning time line is concerned. Stay persistant and work
with her as much as you can alone and with time she will pick
up what you want from her. I don't think that Kelly and Daisy are
at all similiar so I doubt that is a contributing factor.

Gus started to learn right away. The first was sit at eight weeks. Train somewhere they won't be distracted. Use a treat they really like. Don't train too long each session, you want them to stay interested.
For sit - I sat on the floor in front of him, put a treat in front of his nose and when he took notice raised the treat (not too high) slightly backward over his head, head goes up, butt down. Say sit as soon as butt touches the floor and give treat.
Lie down came easy because he knew sit. After they sit, lower the treat to the floor, he should go down after it. As soon as he lies down, you say the command word and give the treat.
Even when we weren't having a training session, if I saw him doing something I would say the word. If I saw him about to lie down or if was running toward me I would say the command.
After the basic commands I never put that much time into training but Gus listens very well and even knows hand signals for every command. He just got used to hearing (and seeing) them over and over and associated it with what he was doing. A good example - every day when I would put in his top knot I would say, "want me to put your hair up?" I wasn't training him but he knows what it means because he has heard it so many times. Now whenever I say it he runs to my lap and puts his head down.

I started immediately with Joey when I got him a 10 weeks. Obviously, I used clicker training!

Saw a program on tv called dog borstal,
there were two yorkies who had not been trained and they were nine years old I thourght huh they are never going to get anywhere with this pair, but with in a week these were two very obedient dogs if I had not seen it would never have believed it could be done.
Moral of the story it is never to late. :animal36
