Where do you allow your dog to be????? How many of you allow your dog on the kitchen counter or on a table. I do - and some of the people in my family think this is just an absolutely horrible thing to do. It's an easy fix though - I just don't do it anymore when they're around. I sit my pup on the table or counter when I put his harness on or once in a while when I comb him or something like that. I give him his baths in the kitchen sink - so of course, he is on the counter for a while then. Whatever - just wondered if the rest of you do this too. Carol Jean |
If a chair is pulled out, Scooby is right up in the middle of the table! Its close to the kitchen window and he can see us come and go, so it is his preferred spot. When anyone visits I make sure the chairs are pulled up-I don't encourage him getting on the table but I guess we haven't been very stern in not letting him there. Some of my family members would think I have lost my mind if they saw him there! They already think I am partially there and call me the crazy dog lady! :p |
Bed yes, table, no I was taught at a very young age that animals do not go where food goes. It sticks with me today. Although it would be ever so much easier to bathe my pups in the kitchen sink (sprayer, perfect height, no stooping) I bathe them in the bathtub. They have free reign of all the other parts of the house, though! :p |
No, I don't allow Joey on the kitchen counters or table! There is a counter beside my utiity room sink that I use for grooming. |
sometimes I let mine on the counter, but it is not when I am making food or anything like that. |
Our girls get on the table or counter as long as there is no food around...that is where I brush them out or when we are sewing on the table, Sailor loves to come and sit up there with us!! But we have to put them up there they don't get up on their own....for the most part! LOL |
Yes i do too, but not if we're eating or im preparing food Each to their own :D |
I wash my dogs in my kitchen sink and groom them on the counter. I would do it at a utility sink if I had one but I don't. They are much easier to control while brushing or putting in a bow on the counter because it is out of their element. Quote:

I must be crasy too. I have always let Sweetie go just about everywere, not talbe then eating.. She is quite a mounton goat! As far as combing her out, we do that on the counter in the kinchen. I came for a dog loving family, always had more then one dog and mom treated us all a like. |

where? Hmmm...where do the Yorkies go...I can't think of any place that is free of dog germs in my home...I find Yorkies to be quite clean compared to most children. I am conveniced the more germs you are exposed to, the better your immune system..and I have been exposed to just about every discussing thing you can think of..LOL I certainly understand people who prefer not to allow the dogs everywhere.. |
With my Ginger that passed this last summer at 15, she pretty much lived on the kitchen table in her basket. I started this when she was yound because I was afraid that she would be killed by my daughter and her friends running around and stomping accidentally on her. She liked being up with us and I loved her there too. I don't have children around anymore so that won't happen anymore but I do groom there. It's easy and they aren't dirty anyway :aimeeyork |
As far as a counter? They are on my bathroom counter when I blow dry them. Otherwise, I keep them off the tables. PERSONALLY, I think that it's a bad habit. I'd hate for someone to come over to my house and see a dog laying on my dining room table...*HINT FOR REBEL!!!* Some that aren't great dog lovers may see this as unsanitary. :( |
:) :aimeeyork I do not allow mine to lounge on counters either...or coffee tables, dining tables...but I have sat them on the counter, or table for one reason or the other..the odd thing is I am not a cat lover because they can go where they pelase, yet a dog does not bother me.. |
i groom my boys on the kitchen table but we dont use it to eat |
We have a bench table so chachi and Jewels get up on the benches but not the table. The only time they are on the countertops is when I am giving them a bath in the sink. |
I allow mine on counters and tables as long as there is no food being prepared or eaten. But I also make a point of cleaning the table and counters before and after we eat and cook. |
romeo is a jumper. i'm scared if he is up high he will jump and hurt himself. my mom put him on her huge center island and he jumped off. |
Gucci has never been on my table or kitchen counters, so she does not look to go there. I must agree with most I personaly don't like that, but hey to each his own. I groom her in my wash room I have a built in laundry table and I sit her on it and brush her hair or blow dry her after her bath... |
bunjee is not allowed on tables and countertops. he is allowed on couches, sofas, and beds so long as he stays on his blanket in these areas or if he's fresh from the shower and haven't been outside yet. |
We don't allow Teddy or Toby on the kitchen table or counter tops. They do however lot's of times use the coffee table and end tables as short cuts from one piece of furniture to the next. The biggest reason I think I allow that is I would rather have them take the short cut than to be jumping up and down like they are Batman. |
I have never put them on the kitchen table. But I do but them on the kitchen counter from time to time to give meds and I find it easier to give them both a bath in the kitchen sink verses the tub. In the tub they have to much room to move around and I don't have a sprayer in the tub. the sink is very little room to run away and I have a sprayer. I then lay a towel on the kitchen counter to do my blow drying and brushing. Neither of mine would be able to get on the kitchen counter without me putting them there. |
I give Reuger a bath in the sink in the kitchen. It's just the right height to work at and it has a sprayer to rinse him off with. I also put him on the counter sometimes to put on his harness before he goes outside. Not very often though and never when there's any food out. |
Tiger gets on my laundry counter every time I had to put a belly band on him or brush his tooth or comb/brush his hair (too lazy to go down to his level  ) . . . but in my kitchen, I let him sit on my high stool and give him something to chew or entertain himself while my hubby and I eat dinner. He occassionally will put both front paws on the island counter but never climb up. Of course when I am busy in the kitchen and I want him close, I sometimes put his crate on my island so he knows why I cannot attend to him and he seemed content to just watch me until he gets bored and then takes a nap . . . . but I dare not let him walk on my island table only because I fear he might jump off it and break a leg . . . . |

Max and Abbie don't go on kitchen counters or the dining room table at my house. They do go on the coffee table between the couch and chair. They used to only walk across it to get from the couch to the chair however last summer when my air conditioner broke and it was in the 90s, Max fell asleep on the coffee table. It has a glass top and was cool for him so I didn't have the heart to move him. Heck, I probably would have been right up there to cool off with him if I could :D. At my parents' house I have to wash them in the kitchen sink (unless I want to take them in the shower with me). The first time I gave them a bath there my dad put them on towels on the counter to dry them. He held them while I dried. I just followed his lead. I really don't think that it's safe for them to be walking around up there but it sure was easier on my back to dry them while they were on the counter. |
Allowed? Lex is allowd on the kitchen counter when I am grooming him post his bath. Otherwise it's no where near it or on the kitchen table either. |
I allow my dogs to be anywhere they want to be! As long as they arent getting hurt! Everyone thinks that I am nuts but what do they know! |
Sometimes I'll bathe him in the sink, but that's as far as I'll go! I'm very conscious of germs, so no way I would let him walk on my counter or table. I also wipe his feet and butt with baby wipes when we come in from outdoors and I don't allow shoes to be worn in the house. |
Bailey is only ever on the counter when I am bathing him and drying him off. Otherwise he's on the ground or in my bed. |
