Well we've been working on now 15 week old Bella's house-training and going outside was working pretty well. We had a nice schedule going and because of our consistency, it was working really well. So... we got a little lazy (it was my "time of the month") and I didn't get her out as much so she had a coupla accidents this past week.

Anyways! The day before yesterday we had her out running around (she was having a f-u-n!) and she ran into her pen (that still had a litter box in it from when we first got her) and she pooed in it! We were shocked because we hadn't had her in the pen in while (she's being crate trained and we take her out for walks and romps and such, but haven't left her in the pen). It was kind of cool because were I've been so lazy/tired I haven't exactly felt like going outside so much so I thought "Cool! Perhaps she'll use this as well". So anyways, we started to hold off on taking her out to see if she'd continue using the litter box and it's been 50/50. Sometimes she makes it, sometimes she doesnt.

We've continued taking her out as well, which she'll still use go outside fine but I don't think that she's holding it because she's waiting for us to take her, it's just good, planned timing on our part. (Did I just confuse you? I didn't mean too...)

Should I stop allowing her to use the litter box? Should I take it away and just stick to outside only??? I'm so confused. :confused:

My girls are both trained to go on pottypads. It sounds like your little girl would learn to use the potty pad eventually! I think that its totally up to you! Maybe you could get her trained on both so that when she is at home she can use the potty pads if she needs to!

I think when training a pup consistancy is the key. She has to learn where her potty spot is. I would do one or the other until she got it down. I think it might be confusing if you try to do both.

The big question is are you home all the time?

If you are, I would stress teaching her to go outside only.

Feed her twice a day at exactly the same time every day. Put water down with the food. LEAVE IT DOWN FOR ONLY 15 MINUTES.

Give her water every 2 hours - leave down for only 15 SECONDS.

Nothing to eat or drink after 4 p.m.

AT 9 P.M., GIVE HER AN ICE CUBE IN HER BOWL - THIS HELPS TO "FREEZE UP" WHAT'S INSIDE AND HELPS HER TO HOLD IT ALL NIGHT LONG.

All this "scheduling" helps her to learn to "hold it" and stretches her bladder so she can wait longer in between trips.

If you use pads and also teach to go outside, then later you'll have to break her from using the pads and to only go outside.

If you want to make sure you don't miss a "pitt stop", why not try setting a TIMER to help remind YOU that it's potty time. We have to be CONSISTENT with this.

I also TETHERED Missy to me or to the treadmill right next to my computer. She went everywhere that I went so I always had my EYES on her!

Just wanted to add that Logan was only able to hold his bladder an hour or two when he was that age. He really didn't start showing bladder control until he was 7 or 8 months old.

I hope he's able to hold it during the night now for you. That's the BIG one! :D

You can train them go outside and also have something inside. I keep a pee pad down and they go right to it if can not get outside. Makes it nice when visiting someone else also. Mine go outside and also trained to a pad. If you have a male and hikes, take a bottle or a clorox jug washed out and filled with water and sit that on a pad....gives them a target.

Training starts in an ex pen. If just allowed to go where they want to go, they think it is OK. If you train them to only go out and they use the BR, have a party and tell them what a good boy/girl they are. I do hate it when people say Yorkies are difficult to train. Puppies do not have good bladder control just can not wait long to go!;>)))
