Males going pottie Hi everyone ; I am curious about male yorkies and them lifting their leg. Do they always learn to lift their leg to pee or if paper trained will they continue to squat like a little female. We hope to get Homer trained to go outside most of the time but for the times in winter when he must stay in because it is too cold or during a storm what is the best plan of action ? Right now he seems to think papers are to play with . He will grab them in his teeth and run away to tear them up. All we seem to be saying is No Homer. Since the weather is getting better I been taking him out every hour but You cannot always count on nice weather. Thanks all :animal-sm Fran |

When I got Bailey fixed at 6 months,, he was starting to lift his leg,, now he is 9 months and he is a " switch hitter" hehe sometimes he squats, sometimes he lifts his let,,,, AND sometimes he squats and lifts his leg at the same time... Go figure! Who knows!? :rolleyes: :D |
My Maltese Tuffy was trained to pee pads from the start and he still squats like a girl to potty. He never lifts his leg when he goes potty on the pad, but he'll lift it if he wants to mark somewhere.. usually on walks. It's weird because he never learned that behavior from another dog, he just did it one day when we were visiting my grandmother and I guess instinct took over when he smelled another dog there. |

Hi, I have a male that was paper trained, but went outside also. One day he just walked up to the wall and hiked his leg and went on my wall. :rolleyes: He was about 4.5 months old when he did that. He's done that two times now, but I've got him where he goes outside now. |
:p toby is pee pad trained, but if he needs to go and we are outside what am i to stand in the way of his buissnes..... anyways, toby DOES NOT lift his leg (he is 7 months old) he doesnt even really squat, he sorta Streeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeetches out and lets loose :confused: yeah... my dog is a weirdo |
Sully started lifting his leg one day, out of the blue, at 5 1/2 months. Who knows?! He does both now, but usually tries to lift up his leg if he can. I wouldn't know about paper training but I can't imagine their habits would be much different. I agree with fasteddie....just their nature, I guess! |
Hi, My little boys stretch way out like that. One has been raising his leg up a few inches off the ground since he was about 9 weeks old. But he still squats while he does it. Stretches out, squats, and then lifts one leg up a bit. Sometimes while he's in the middle of doing he'll decide that he has to switch legs and raise the other one up instead. Silly boy dogs. This one has never really hiked his leg all the way up yet. |
Hefner lifts his leg now. He is 6 months and was neutered before I got him. I think they raise their leg so they don't get the "splash"! |
I don't know much about leg lifting, but I know what you mean about the weather. It's very unpredictable here. My mom maintains that I should start letting him out no matter what the weather and just let him do his business and come back inside right away. |
My little Oreo has been squatting ever since i got him (8 weeks) .. and is still squatting! at 4 months! LOL.. i had a girl pomeranian 4 months old.. she would lift her leg!! :) |
