Marking!!! I have a 4-year-old Bichon that has started marking in the house because of the puppy. I think part of it is because the pup is now 7 months old and started lifting his leg about a month ago - no doubt his testosterone has kicked in! The Bichon seems to do most of his marking in the bedroom - I have laminate flooring and washable scatter rugs - I can easily clean any spots, but it is still not acceptable - and it does cause me a lot of extra work. I'm not sure what to do - I am now keeping the bedroom door closed - and whenever he heads for the bedroom, I send him outside (and he's glad to go). And, I am letting him outside about twice as often as I used to. My pup will be neutered in a few weeks. Any other suggestions? Carol Jean |
I think this is a hard question to answer. Sometime an old dog will start marking because of a new dog in the house. He might get over it and stop marking when he realize he doesn't have to stake his territory or he he may never stop. Really don't know what to say. For now, have you thought about getting both dogs a belly band? |
We have a 9 year old lab that started marking because he saw Tucker doing it. Now I have 2 of them peeing in the house. Very, very frustrating. Tucker can wear a belly band, Rusty is 75 pounds! |
Me again - I don't want both my dogs in a belly band - one is enough for now. I am keeping the bedroom door shut (that's where my older male started doing most of his marking)....and I am just putting him outside a lot oftener. Especially if he ever goes toward the bedroom door - outside he goes. I think this is helping. Carol Jean |
