Litter box issues My little Big Boy is now lifting his leg in the litter box which is quite large but still not big enough to catch it when he does this. I have tried puppy pee pads around the outside edges to catch it but he tears the pads all apart. Big is 16 weeks and has been with us and using the box for about 8 weeks. Is it close to impossible to try to train him to the outside at this point? I'd be greatful for any advice. Thanks, desperate on cape cod |
box Would any plastic box work...if so why not get one of those Rubbermade tubs and cut out one side for him to use as a doorway in to the box? At some point he will mature and stop ripping the wee-wee pads around the box also. If he is trained so well inside like you say, I would not rock the boat and try to retrain him to go outside..at least he is peeing in one area that he suppose to pee in..even thought it is aroudn the box. Good Luck |
Yorkie Rose: Thanks so much. I'm going to cut one up right now! |
How do you train a dog to use a litter box? |
Try using a box with higher sides. You can cut one side down some so that he can jump in - but leave the other three sides high. I did this with my cats because they were throwing the litter all over the floor when they tried to cover up their mess. Carol Jean |
great idea! i am having this issue with rocky too! i didn't realize why his closet that i faux fur lined for his box and bed smelled dispite my constant cleaning. well it was the walls! yikes! i had to pull out the insulation and faux fur and start over. what a mess. but he goes there so well i wouldn't think of changing him. it comes in handy even at hotel that he will go on the paper. so i am on my way to get a rubermaid to cut to fit. great idea! thanks michelle  |
