Therapy work Hi, I have a Biewer named Zoe. She is the sweetest little dog I have ever met! She has such a great personality that I would just love to get into therapy work with her. I would like to be able to take her to care centers, childrens hospitals, etc. Other than knowing the basic commands, does anyone know what else would be required for her and me to know? Thanks for any advice you might have! |

I called a therapy group about this once and they told me they just had to go through a test to be qualified (but that was for that specific group) Since that time Tucker has grown a bit too hyper for that, but we are thinking of doing it with our newer edition, Tripp. Let us know what you find! |
Most therapy groups require that the dog pass a Canine Good Citizen test. Here is the website for Therapy Dogs International. They require the CGC test and a few extra requirements of their own. Their extra requirements are in italics on this webpage; the CGC requirements are in regular type: http://www.tdi-dog.org/tditesting.html |
Thanks :) I'll check the web site out. I really appreciate your help! |
I have one certified through TDI and another certified through Delta Society. Both test with similar. Here is a Delta Society link that tells you what your dog need to do to pass the test. http://www.deltasociety.org/TextOnly...boutBecome.htm |
I have been told they have to be fixed to be a theropy dog. Is this true? I was wanting to get my girl envolved in theopy work. |

They don't need to be fixed to be therapy or service dogs. |

Note: Service dogs are important to those people with disabilities. The key word is disability. Service dog serves the disabled. Therapy dogs work with a health-care professional as part of a treatment plan. Dogs that do visitation are also commonly called "therapy dogs". Sometimes people get these 2 confused. I included this in this post just incase someone reading this is wondering what is the difference between and therapy and service dog. :D |
