Help with BARKING!! My Bailey is 9 months old and totally looses a grip when someone goes by the house , especially with another dog,, I've tried everything,,, people I work with say try one of those small shock collars for barking! Is this cruel or do they work,,, I want your opinions,,,, Cruel of helpful?? |
im having a similiar problem with Lucio i am thinking about trying one of those silent dog whistles or a small water gun. i have been using alot of praise with the word quiet and it works sometimes but if someone passes by like jogging running or on a bike he goes completely nuts!!! i dont know if those silent whistles are safe though has anyone used them? my friend used the pet trainer which is the same idea as the whistle but it has a collar and remote control no shock just a loud noise we cant hear but they can. |
Have your tried the squirt bottle thing? That was the only thing that worked for us. Now if Rocco starts barking, all we have to do is point it at him and he stops. |
i have the same problem with my scrappydoo , he really hates it when he sees the mailman go bye in the window hes up on the back of the couch trying to get him threw the window , he loves watching the kids outside ,half the time he falls asleep in the window. :aimeeyork |
We also have success with the squirt bottle. Reagan knows what it means - however, we still have to use it over and over again! Will he ever just stop barking????? |
Have you tried 20 pennies in a Slimfast can? Slimfast cans are louder and I think work better than soda cans. We've used this with all of our dogs on any behavior we want to get rid of. |
Rudy is my barker, I use the squirt bottle, and it works on him. Like others posted all I have to do is pick it up and he sees me with it and he stops |
I read that if you can teach your dog to 'speak' on command, you can train them to not bark too. Passionfruition posted a great site that tells you how to do this (speak). http://yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3780 I managed to teach Lucy in about half an hour to speak on command and so far she is getting better when be ask her to stop barking! :animal-sm |
You have to find something that he's afraid of, and threaten to use it when he starts to bark. Otis is terrified of those party-favor whistles that curl out. Anytiime he starts to beg for food, all I have to do is reach for it, and he's the perfect little gentleman. |
